Marreon Jackson: Transferring
Marreon Jackson has entered into the transfer portal as a grad transfer. Sad to see him go, thankful for what he's done for the program.

RE: Marreon Jackson: Transferring
This is the crap that’s ruining college basketball even further. One-and-done’s started the downward trend, now we have the transfer portal. He thinks he’s too good for Toledo now after winning MAC POY, the grass ain’t always greener. Huge blow for us and the entire MAC. All the league’s top players are transferring it seems like, it’s getting out of hand.

RE: Marreon Jackson: Transferring
We're set at guard. He's given us a full career. I cannot put this into the same category as tranferitis. Losing him one way or the other was in the cards, no? If he has feelers that say he will have a starting role somewhere better to prepare him for the next thing, I'm all for it. I hope it works out for him.

Can you blame him? He is on the national radar but not the NBA's yet. He did his part and our program failed him. He could have been a star in the dance. He was shut down vs. Richmond so he has some work to do... but ill be rooting for wherever he goes next season.

Coach K and teamates togetherness more in question every season. A better finish and he chooses UT for one more year.

Kyle Rowland (The Blade) also tweets; "This is a mutual decision between UT and Jackson, they've given each other four incredible years".

RE: Marreon Jackson: Transferring
Not that surprising. He's got a free year, and if he can get on a P5 team, that gives him a chance to put some film together against consistently better competition which might get him noticed by the pro scouts.

In a normal year, his eligibility is done anyway. Most expected he was going to try the pro route now anyway.

Good luck to him.

Don’t take this the wrong way — this is his career he’s working towards. You’re just a dude on a message board that cheers for Toledo. He owes you nor anyone else at Toledo any more than he’s given the past 4 years. He’s gotta do what’s best for him.

So we finally make the dance next year and we get beat in the first round by a 3 pointer at the buzzer by MJ playing for a 5 seed.

My two favorite teams next year will be UT and whomever Marreon chooses. Gave us four great years and knows any NBA dreams don’t run through Toledo. Thanks for the show, Marreon! You’ll always be a Rocket.

Yeah that’s a bull$hit take. Dude doesn’t owe Toledo anything. Perhaps he wants a better opportunity to make the Big Dance. I don’t blame him. He certainly wasn’t going to get one at Toledo.

Hopefully Marreon ends up someplace in a P5 program where he can start AND get to the Dance. That’s a tough combo to get, though...Might a top 25 program give him the shot to start?

"I'm going to weigh my options," Jackson said. "Going overseas could still be an option for me or just playing professionally in general, whether it's NBA or overseas. I'm going to see how this process goes and weigh my options and make my final decision."

Opportunity overseas pros isn't even a challenge for his skill set and experience. It's a given. Like any post graduation job, I think you have to hear someone say it's yours before you can really feel if it is what you really want. I hope he gets a terrific selection but a nice P5 needing a starting PG would be nice. Any of the top 14, Big 10 teams would give him a pretty good shot at the dance.

I don’t believe I said he owes me anything? Just venting my frustration. It’s going to be awfully painful to watch him play in another school’s uniform. And if he makes it pro, his latest school will get the credit on bios and whatnot, not Toledo. This is a new trend in CBB and it’s going to kill the mid-majors.

I do wholeheartedly agree with that last sentence. Only a matter of time before the G5 gets even more watered down in football AND basketball, and told to just play their “own” national championships...like FCS and Division II. Then, every P5 team can be in the “Big Dance” regardless of record—which is what they want.

This has nothing to do with the program failing him, TK's coaching or the team’s togetherness. This has everything to do with him getting a unique opportunity to showcase his abilities with this upcoming extra year of eligibility granted to everyone due to COVID. In addition, without having a chance to work out for any Pro Teams before the summer NBA draft, this move is his next best option. He has given everything to the Program over the past 4 years on and off the court, and deserves to seek out the best opportunity for his future career in basketball. If he thinks that opportunity is his playing for a Major, more power to him!
