I don’t believe either GCU or NMSU ever had anything to worry about. Neither of their coaches were interviewed. ACU’s coach Golding was on of the candidates TT actually interviewed. Big sigh of relief in Abilene. ACU could not begin to match TT money although every effort will be made to boost his salary enough that other mid majors won’t be as attractive.

Texas Tech promotes Mark Adams with the hopes of keeping the current Red Raider program intact. Otherwise a lot of the players would jump ship forcing Texas Tech to start from scratch; with some of their top players going to Texas to follow Beard. That would only add insult to injury for loosing Beard to an instate conference rival. Before Texas Tech hired Adams, their were a few Tech players I was hoping would land at NMSU. Wishful thinking on my part.

Moreover, he is by all accounts an excellent coach.

UTEP’s coach resigned to take an assistant job at Texas. Heard Joe Golding’s name mentioned as a replacement.

Why would GCU fans care? The Drew brothers have made it know they won't ever coach in the same league or schedule games vs each other on purpose unless it was in March Madness.

I believe Cincinnati will be looking for a new HC shortly. Not out of the woods yet. But we can see the clearing.

I hear ya but would Jans or Drew leave their jobs for that? I have to think both feel like they would need to be swooned at a level that would be tough to believe. I think both love where they are at.

Jans interviewed for the ECU job last year and the rumor was that he was very interested in the job. Cincinnati is several levels above ECU. I'm not convinced that Jans loves NMSU. But who knows?

Case in point, the back stabbing UTEP will do to keep NMSU down. There are at least a half dozen coaches out there that are in UTEP's prices range that could built a winning program in El Paso. But they would rather "try" to hit two birds with one stone by taking a swing at Jans; taking NMSU down in the process. UNM did it to NMSU by hiring away Paul Weir; but that backfired. Difference this time is Jans is a sure thing as a winning. Weir road Menzies coattails all the way to getting the UNM jobs.

It takes two to tango though. If Jans wasn’t or isn’t interested, then no harm. The EP media is just speculating. How do you know that Jans didn’t reach out first? Maybe he was frustrated about the guidelines the state of New Mexico placed on his program? I’m sure that wasn’t fun to deal with. Fans seem to forget about things like that.

On a more subtle note...Jans seems like an intelligent chap, and as such, he probably realizes that his stock will never be higher in this upgraded WAC. His stock peaked 2 years ago, and he (smartly) tested the water, only to (smartly) take nmsu to the bank to retain him. Your name doesn't keep coming up in HC search conversations unless you, or more likely your agent, have let it be known that you're interested in listening to offers. I think it's pretty obvious now that Jans wants out of LC, and I don't think an institution like UTEP gives a whoop about ridiculous backstabbing conspiracy theories. If Jans is the best available candidate, so be it. But I don't think he is at the moment.

It's hardly backstabbing - I don't expect UTEP to show us any loyalty/friendship.

Right. UTEP also let NMSU rent out their arena and stadium so NMSU could play “home” games this year. Now they’re looking to stab them in the back. Typical Aggie paranoia.

And yet, NMSU was trying to put together a basketball schedule this past season and both UTEP and UNM passed on playing NMSU; the first time since WWII. SO, don't portray UTEP as being magnanimous. NMSU had to seek out UTEP for a place to play a few basketball games; none against UTEP.

So in the El Paso times today ACU, GCU and Tarleton coaches are all on the list of coaches being targeted. Clearly Gillespie wants out of Tarleton or he wouldn’t be putting his name out there.

Like I said, Jans is clearly not the best available option at the moment. UTEP should, and will, do their due diligence. BCG's been there/won there before. I can seem him putting his feelers out.

UTEP just needs to hire Tim Hardaway and keep their mediocre fandom moving along.
