How many are from Texas, and how many from Beijing?

Do we really need anti-China comments populating multiple threads? We get that some of you don't like China or Chinese people. Not sure your take on Chinese-Americans, but I really don't care. At this point your are beating a dead horse. We get it. No China for you.

(1) It is relevant with respect to interest in American football.

(2) Chinese-Americans are not enemies, nor are those from Taiwan.

And, I don't care about your take on this issue. The previous poster asked, rhetorically I suppose, whether or not these 1,200 would have an interest in our intercollegiate athletic teams. The makeup of the student body is relevant. If our sports appeal only to alumni, we should just shut them down.

I'd say its also relevant to their interest in Rice culture/longevity. Do they care if Rice implodes in 10 or 50 years? Would they respond with donations and/or effort/time if Rice said, we need you?

You can dislike the Chinese government and not dislike Chinese people, and Chinese-Americans are Americans.... of Chinese descent. Not the same thing. The question for me is one of whether they are here to bring Rice culture into their own lives as well as bring their culture to the diversity of Rice... or are they merely here to try and maintain their home culture, take the education and then go home, essentially the same person (culturally) as when they left. This could be said of people from most anywhere.... Like people from SF moving to Austin. Are they there to integrate into and embrace and expand the Austin culture, or are they there to take the jobs and standard of living/cost of living, while maintaining/seeking to maintain the SF culture?

If your experience/fear is the latter, you will tend to talk about that... while someone 'on the other side' will tend to consider the former.

I wonder what percentage of Asians nationals or Americans including China, Taiwan, and Japan belong to the Owl Club? Not sure if this is available.

Don’t ever remember being asked to provide demographic data to the Owl Club.

It would be interesting. Then the Owl Club would know where to try to reach out to to increase enrollment.
