People get info sometimes and are asked to keep it to themselves so they respect the people that give them the info and keep it to themselves. No need to worry. All things usually come to light sooner or later.

Why should we? I only mentioned that he was gone two weeks ago and got raked over the coals and called a troll.

Perhaps start with just being good enough to get PT on a D1 roster...

Maybe start with an ability to control his conduct to stay on a D-1 roster.

I always wondered about the kid and his H.S. team being terrible.

This tweet makes sense why he left though...He felt he was going to come in and be an immediate star. He seemed to have the tools...Speed, Strength and athleticism.

Penny needs to start evaluating these kids personality\mindset before offering. He is going to learn that he is not the recruit whisperer. Pick the kids who you fit your coaching style.

Hard to get that level of knowledge about a kid through the limited recruiting contact rules, especially with Covid protocols in place, and the current level of entitlement the elite HS guys receive. Recruiting coaches have to rely on references from those around the player, an honest assessment from a coach etc. But coaches rarely give honest assessments, they want their guys to get the big offers. And in Nesbitt's case, was a big time HS success, #2 ranked player in MO with predicted upside. I couldn't find any available reference to any personality issues via Google, not even those related to his time here that are rumored that
Nesbittt might have had. Probably some indication somewhere but it would probably take some level of invading privacy to find it. Hard to know what entitlement does to a particular kid. Some understand it's all related to their immediate situation, others have a better grip on reality & know at some point they'll have to work & earn continued success.

Hopefully this is just an accommodation because of a prior relationship. If Penny signs Harris, the program takes a big step back.

No way! Penny develops guys to NBA level. He'll make Tyler into the next Iverson, probably better.

a tired act sir

who do you root for?

Tubby.

I guess that might be true.

He thought Tubby was the best coach since Kirk.
https://csnbbs.com/thread-797462-post-13...id13761692

The statement was accurate. I said that Tubby was the best X and O coach at Memphis, since Dana Kirk.

I would attempt a discussion with you about that point, if you understood the sport of basketball. But as it stands, I will not, as the exercise would be pointless.

In this case, no harm no foul. Penny had an open scholly. The kid had the ability to come in midseason and learn as a freebie. Like an internship. Some times they work, some times they don't.

What other examples are you thinking of with Penny struggling with recruiting?

Does all these transfers affect the APR and is that still a thing?

Like I said in another post. I played JUCO baseball and spent a lot of time hanging out with the basketball team. At least 50% of the basketball team thought they were future pros. I can only imagine that 100% of D1 recruits believe the same thing. I am not sure how you evaluate that kind of mentality. Some kids end up being able to adjust their expectations and roles and some do not. Sitting a kid down for a mental evaluation and giving them a series of personality exams probably will not bode well for recruiting though...

A lot of kids come wanting to be a future pro without understanding the sacrifice needed for it: happens at the pro level too. Guys are college stars. Go pro and think it gets easier.

I'm guessing Penny's insight has improved. lol. Many players have the dream.
Some can't or don't like to put it into practice.

He doesn't seem to have any problem recruiting the kids...

But some of the kids he is recruiting don't seem to mesh with his style.

I don't think Penny is a players coach as he appears on the surface...And that is a good thing.

Come on, we are still in the age of COVID. The recruit's one main tool to determine if there are some unforeseen issues is the official visit. Nesbitt is a baller and will hopefully do fine but not with the Tigers.

It was clear this season there were some selfishness, dislikes, and inabilities that didn't mesh with the team concept needed to make a run at the conference title. I know that talent is needed but it does not matter without cohesiveness. Penny did an outstanding job of correcting the ship were as a number of coaches would have succumbed to the pressure.

Ya, I have really changed my opinion on that. For the vast majority of his time here I have believed that Penny tried to hard to be a player's coach.

However, seeing some of these players leave and having a suspicion as to why (granted I have no inside knowledge) I am beginning to think just the opposite. He is not a player's coach. He has high expectations, which include hard nose defense and a team first mentality.

I think he did cater some at first but has since realized the team cannot function as 12 individuals and he seems to be getting rid of players that cling to the "me first" mentality.

It is one of the reasons I absolutely love watching Lester play. A 6'5" guard with multiple 15 rebound games. He just bust his ass for the team and does whatever is needed to win. You have to love a player like that!

If they finish in good academic standing, it's no issue with the APR.
They need to finish in good academic standing in order to transfer.
So not really.

His top 2 were SLU and Memphis. I think he figured that Memphis was talent heavy, and, that he would shine more at SLU.

Plus, he gets to stay home, so, maybe something changed in the family that made him want to stay close to home. Or, he couldn't face all the competition at Memphis, especially with Davion Warren coming.
