Houston vs Memphis
interesting video

https://youtu.be/MLwMGKQAQYU

I am certainly no expert but the following has occurred to me when looking at each teams roster.
Houston stands to lose 6 players from the current roster for next season, assuming Grimes enters the NBA draft. Kelvin Sampson could replace these losses with recruiting and the transfer portal but Sampson seems inclined to largely only recruit players who will work hard and play defense. Meanwhile, Memphis is loading up 4-5 star talent even if it comes with a fair number of misses. They are largely younger under classman but given some time will develop if they stick with it.

I think both Memphis and Houston have the potential for powerful rosters, but the transfer market muddles projections.

I think Houston is still in the mix next year, I mean we lost Caleb mills and Nate Hinton this year and we were able to get what was left to look like a pretty good team.

But talent does mater and Memphis has a heck of a lot of it so I’d say if they keep everyone it’s theirs to lose.

RE: Houston vs Memphis
Sampson had built a crazy good roster with a bunch of kids no one so much as heard of. He continues to find diamonds in rough and the upside is that they stay in the program progressing building a well oiled and experienced machine. I have a lot of faith in who he picks so I think we will be good.

Penny can recruit off of his name alone and bring an absurd amount of talent. The bad part is they can be gone after a year or two but easily replaced just as fast. Both are good just different paths to get where we need to be.

We’ll lose Grimes, Jarreau, Gorham, and Gresham. We may lose one (Cam Tyson?) to transfer.

As it stands, we have 3 scholarships to fill, assuming Grimes goes to the NBA early. We’ll have 4 If we have a transfer. The portal is on fire right now. I would like our chances at reloading out of the portal for next season. There’s some smoke right now about Miller Kopp potentially being a Coog next season. Would be a fantastic 6th man for us. If we could somehow land 1 big (Yetna?) and another dynamic guard, someone like Myreon Jones, we are set next season.

Keep in mind we have 3 incoming freshmen signed. That only leaves 1 left to give with Grimes leaving. If we have a transfer leave, that would be 2 to give.

That’s not right. We have 12 scholarship players right now. Jarreau, Gorham, Gresham are gone. Then bring in the 3 freshmen. That puts us back at 12. Fabian White doesn’t count against the limit next year. We’re at 2. Grimes leaves. We’re at 3.

Oh ok. Didn't know we shouldn't count Fabian against the limit.

RE: Houston vs Memphis
We have a nice class coming in. Sixth in the country I believe. I just don't want us to follow the Calipari one and dones formula. There was a nice jump from the freshman last year to being sophomores this year. We need stability. Unfortunately the balls in the kids court this year, and they are taking full advantage of it.

This could be a rebuilding year for every team in the country. I have no idea who will stay and who will go, but I hope we don't lose Quinones most of all.

Of all the players I think might leave, Q isn't one of them. No guarantees with anything, but it doesn't seem like staying or leaving is an issue with him. He is my favorite player, followed by Williams.
