Holcomb on the mound. Karp catching. Bulman at 1B. Gneiting DH. The last two is a mistake, IMO. Bulman is a liability at 1B; whereas Gneiting is solid there.

Two runs would likely have scored regardless as Gallant gave up two singles and a double.

2 of Gallant’s 3 runs allowed were ruled unearned per the box score. 1st one went through Hughes legs. 2nd was on a single that Gneiting allowed to get away.

Great win, at least in terms of the manner of victory. Winning this series now would definitely be a boost for us and a gut punch for UTSA.

Yep, coming back from getting run-ruled to take 2 of 3 is about as big a boost as you can get.

It’s a four game series so we’ll have to win this next game today and then tomorrow’s 9 inning finale to get the series win. But I’d even take a 2-2 split given what it looked like with 1 out in the 7th today.

UTSA gets 2 in 1st inning on 3 singles and an error on the catcher. 0-2 going to B1.

After 2 outs, Owls get back to back walks. But 3-2 K ends the threat.

1-2-3 T2 for Holcomb.

In B2, 1 out walk to Gneiting, but Karp hits into 3 unassisted - 6 double play.

Another 1-2-3 inning for Holcomb in T3. Owl offense need to provide some support!

But, Owls go quietly 1-2-3. No Owl hits thru 3. Grrr!

0-3 going to B4. UTSA gets a run in T4 on a single, HBP, single.

Offense needs to wake up. Only Owl baserunners have come on 3 walks in the 1st 2 innings.

Another 1-2-3 for the Owls. So much for momentum from the walk off win. 0-3 going to T5.

RE: UTSA vs Owls - Game 2
Owls get a one out hit by Edwards! Maybe that will get them going.

Dunlap watches strike 3 for 2nd out. 4 outs left.

Comeaux rbi single! UTSA pitcher over 90 pitches now. Edwards had advanced to 2B on a WP.

Garibay bounces out to the pitcher. Going to T7. 1-3.

And Holcomb’s over 100 pitches!

Back to back walks and Holcomb is at 111 pitches. Bragga is leaving him in????

Finally Bragga comes out. And leaves him in! WTH?

Holcomb throws wildly to 2B on pick off attempt. Both runners move up. Batter receives free pass. Bases loaded. 1 out.

K swinging! 2 outs.

HBP rbi. And Holcomb stays on the bump.

F8 ends the inning. I hope Holcomb’s arm doesn’t fall off. 118 pitches. Not sure what Bragga is thinking.

I think the context was for Hallmark to win there, not for us to go there and win.

Botched pick-off, walk, HBP. Argh...

Just had to make it a bit more difficult, I guess. We need at least three in B7 this time.

B7. Rally time again. Come on Owls!

Walsh Ks on 3 pitches.

Bulman pops out to 1B in foul territory on 1st pitch.

4-3 ends it. Disappointing effort after the big comeback in the 1st game.

Thanks for the correction/insight!

(I was reading the thread backwards, to see what I'd missed earlier today.)

Just awful managing. It wouldn't have mattered, but that was pitcher cruelty. Holcomb had obviously hit the wall. To keep him in there, unable to throw strikes, was brutal. Bragga's management of this pitching staff has no rationale. His favorites he keeps in way too long, and he has a super quick hook on virtually everyone else.
