RE: 1st Spring Scrimmage
The fact that UAB came back better than SMU I don't think SMU had any JUCOs and transfers post-death penalty, did they?

UAB was in the coffin and they were about the pour the dirt when the lid was pushed aside and Blaze, bruised and maimed and scarred, stuck out a paw. Thus the attendees helped him up and said, "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology and willpower." The priest and coroner were still on scene.
SMU was taken in a field, shot, wrapped in plastic, tied to concrete blocks and thrown in a river. The NCAA said, "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."

not sure but they did have strict academic requirements and they focused on rebuilding by bringing in largely players out of high school. its the model Clark knew not to follow because it failed so spectacularly. Clark did it the right way knowing we needed to win immediately and would deal with depth issues later on. with the new transfer rules it make it easier to deal with it

The NCAA was not going to do a thing to help SMU at that point in time. SMU openly defied the NCAA, including multiple times after being caught.
The NCAA took pity on UAB given the circumstances, and really did us a solid in allowing us to recruit the way we did post shut down.
