Hey, at least Villanova's still in the Sweet 16. It wasn't that stupid a pick. Actually the top 4 are still alive. But about #5 and #6....

Oh yes, very aware of that high projection. But, I think there was a bigger, national projection that also conferred with this anticipated "high-potential" Villanova team. They were in the hunt for the title. Even Vegas had them as one of the better picks.

And, they were projecting toward the top two lines before their late "collapse." YES, they fell to the five-line. But, they also still finished as regular season Big East champion (they had help from Creighton sputtering at the end). I STILL believe that even one win in the Big East Tournament probably had them moving up to the 4-line. Taking AQ could have moved them to the 3, I suspect. The last few losses were head-scratchers, but there were enough good wins in there, too.

To be fair to this Villanova team...this isn't nearly as good as the 2018 squad that won the championship, but, when this team is "on," hitting their shots and having you fall into their traps and fouling antics, it can feel like you're seeing something near that championship squad.

I think Vegas sees it that way, too, with the upcoming Baylor match. 6.5 underdogs is generous if Villanova is "on." The "off" nights, which could be any of them...take Baylor with both hands, easily.

Villanova collapsed because they lost their co-best player, Gillespie, to injury. Since then, they've been barely a top-20 team, though Jay Wright's coaching and a fortunate second round opponent have them in the Sweet 16.

With Gillespie, I'd give Villanova a chance to beat anyone on a given night. Without him, Baylor will win by 15-20.

Yeah I agree. Mind you, I don't think they would have won. They've shown no indication at any point of the season that they are the best team. But it was within their capability to do it, and we've seen them pull it together for the big dance before. Without Gillespie, it just isn't within their capability.

RE: NCAA Mon thoughts
Gillespie wasn’t hurt the night they went 2-27 in 3-point shooting, though. That Butler loss was before the injury and win against Creighton where they won the regular season crown.

Since Gillespie has been out, if you look at the lineup and shooting since the injury, it does look like Wright is/was mixing it up and trying to find something else for this squad to do. Yeah, the Providence and Georgetown losses were ugly. But, in the Providence game, Nova didn’t just go back to slinging 3’s. Quite the opposite and uncharacteristic of this year’s team. Moore (who they need to stop giving the ball to shoot 3’s, since he isn’t all that great at it) came off the bench for the Georgetown game.

They’re adapting post-Gillespie. What that ceiling is, we’ll find out soon enough. Could be a massacre and Baylor carves them up. Could also be Baylor’s toughest draw?

When coach Boeheim retires I hope Syracuse takes a look at Nate Oats,Eric Musselman and our beloved son now Washington Husky coach Mike Hopkins. I think Oars could do some damage at SU

Syracuse-WVU was the most viewed contest of the opening weekend with 7.85 million viewers . Wisconsin-Baylor a close second with 7.7 million viewers. Not bad for a little 11 seed team that people thought didn’t belong in the tournament lol.

Monday games were not included in this listing because they do them by week, Monday through Sunday.

There's clearly a big jump between Saturday (1st round) and Sunday (2nd round). Comparing CBS games

Saturday: 3.272, 3.448, 3.399, 4.056
Sunday: 6.161, 7.742, 7.856

I'll be curious to see the Monday ratings. I imagine the Monday afternoon CBS games won't be high as people will be at work. For that reason, CBS will rather have the games back to a Thur-Sun schedule. They would want to have the numbers they got for Sunday on Saturday as well. I'd be shocked if they get those numbers on Monday (maybe Monday night but even that's doubtful, the 7pm ET game started at 4pm in California which cuts into its audience).

looks like the 2 night games drew 5.851 million for Michigan/LSU and then 4.219 million for USC/Kansas.

Of course some of Monday was the games were absolute dogs.

Washington probably hopes that Syracuse takes a look at Hopkins. 07-coffee3

Wow. Amarillo area is celebrating.
Might this be the catalyst for the WAC to have WT the 14th team?

That’s nice. Oats might cut down the nets this year. Lofty goals there, Cuserino.

Right. He’s already preparing a new topic with evidence as to why they should be D1.
