Not trying to be ornery but December 5, 2020 was close maybe? A shutout win over a ranked Marshall football team. Men's basketball beat HBU (meaningless really) but the women beat Texas Tech on the road.

I guess Marshall proved to be overrated and Texas Tech's women weren't that great.

So let's give a slight edge to today.

Texas has pretty good odds to be a national champion in volleyball this season and we got a road win. Not as noticeable to the general public as beating a ranked team in football but I’d rate that as more impressive.

If the women can win the WNIT next week I’d rate that as one of our biggest days since 03. At least in terms of publicity. Great week so far!

I mean if this was the rubber game of a weekend series-I would say definitely this is a huge win.. But it's a midweek game.

The significance of this day is 95% WVB and 5% BSB.

But still, very happy that we won this one... We had lost 19 straight on the road prior to this game which is almost unbelievable.

Agreed. Plus this A&M team isn’t very good. Have heard they will fire their coach after the year.

Big weekend coming up against UTSA.

Gotta beat Hallmark’s club, especially on our home turf (we get them in SA later this season).

Got a text from an Aggie buddy who was at the game. He said the Aggie faithful are ready for the Childress era to end. He said he’d fire Childress mid-season and bring in Wayne to finish out the year, adding that the OG wouldn’t put up with “this prima donna BS”. Made me smile.

First game I've seen in a while since it was on ESPN+. I thought they looked decent. 3 CS for our catcher, solid defensive play, and none of the baffling decision making that become the norm in the past 2-3 years. I know it's a midweek win, but momentum is definitely up.

Stop with the slights. A&M may be outside the top25, but they're a quality team. Coming in they were 15-7 (12-3 at home), with wins against Oklahoma, Baylor and Houston. And the pitcher we faced tonight was 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA, including a win against UH.

Not going to be easy. UTSA is obviously very competitive this year. They took 2 of 3 against Sam Houston State, and though they got swept at LSU, two games went to extra innings and the third was tight 3-1 loss. They've played much better competition than we have.

Defense has been a strength all season. Easily the best defensive team we've had in at least 4 - 5 years.

Cool. Besides those 3 wins you mentioned (none of whom are ranked by the way), their others come against noted powerhouses PVU, Incarnate Word, New Mexico State, A&M Corpus, and Samford. They also lost 2 of 3 at home to Xavier, lost at home to Abilene Christian, and are 0-4 against their SEC opponents. And the Aggies all want their coach fired. But keep carrying that water.

Comparing this win to volleyball beating a top ranked team in the country is silly.

I’m with you on that-I’ve been frustrated by our poor strength of schedule-but I’m really hoping that we’re “learning to win.” The conference schedule should have a good mix of really good opponents (LT, USM, maybe ODU) and easier opponents for us to measure ourselves against.

I think 18-14 in conference play is the over/under on what I consider a good year for us... Would end us something like 29-26 to 32-23 (depending on results in our final three midweeks) with an RPI well above the basement we’re dwelling in.

I’d personally take the under on 18-14 right now-Haven’t proven we can play well against good teams (or bad for that matter) consistently. But I’d probably take the over on, say, 14-18. Anything under ~12 wins and I think Bragga’s seat gets mighty warm.

I'd say .500 in conference is the over/under as we're in, by far, the toughest CUSA division. LaTech and USM are both Top 25 caliber teams, and both ODU and UTSA are easily Top 100. And with Garcia apparently out we don't have the pitching depth for 4-game weekend series, particularly in the bullpen. It's why I just don't understand why Bragga/Barton didn't use the earlier games to give more of our pitchers a steady look. Linskey, Janac, Lazabal and Davis have hardly been used to date, yet we're going to need them to really step up if we hope to be competitive this year. And, to state the obvious, we simply don't have the offense this year to overcome even mediocre pitching.

Pitchers' duel in a mid week game. Interesting!

Small sample, but the in-game management appears better this year.

Agree this weekend will be a test.

Always liked Hallmark.

The A&M pitchers had great stats coming into the game so I'm not too concerned about our hitting... Honestly, 8 hits isn't too bad (but they weren't timely).

I was impressed by our pitching, especially Greenwood.

Drake's stuff has clearly improved. I wonder if he developed another pitch as he struggled to miss bats (swings and misses) his previous two seasons. My only issue with him as a reliever is his lack of command. He issues far too many free passes (BBs, HBPs) for my liking, and usually goes deep in the count against most batters. Having said that, his strikeout frequency and BAA have improved significanty....and hats off to him for that.

The lack of timely hitting - 1 earned run on 8 hits, 1 walk and a HBP - is exactly what concerns me with the Owls' offense. Owls left 4 RISP. Thank goodness Hughes got the timely hit in the T9. This game should not have been as close as it was.

By comparison, the Aggies got 1 earned run on 2 hits, 5 walks and a HBP. Ags left only 1 RISP, if I counted right, thanks to a good job throwing out runners attempting to steal by Justin Long.

I will say last night both Zaskoda and Greenwood had much improved performances.

In any event, it always good to beat the Aggies, no matter how it's done. And to beat the Aggies and Longhorns on the same day in any sport... well let's just say it was a great day for the Owls!

A&M is not the same this year. They went on a nice winning streak but the SEC will likely expose them this season. That being said, Rice did fantastic against them and I love the enthusiasm after the last out. On the flip side the 2-0 a&m pitcher actually lowered his ERA against us. Hitting in general is a concern but especially with RISP. In that stat they have been awful. But, really enjoyed the game and any win against the farmers is a good win. FYI, LOVED the unis!!! Need to ditch the softball/Lacrosse/MLS Soccer/Mens club team/10 yr old select/Fishing Club unis for the traditional ones.
