RE: When was UC last relevant ?
Wow this thread has legs! As a representative of the non-UH/UC schools, I will say that having Houston and Cincinnati in the American is great. Both schools can point to historic and recent success (with the exception of this d!ck measuring contest) With that being said, I also appreciate our other fine institutions. Some UC fans still cannot get over not being in an AQ conference, especially as they watch other former BE teams pull in more money. However, I would counter that Pitt, Cuse, Louisville have not become nationally relevant in the ACC, in fact they are less than they were. Cincy otoh was a football playoff contender last year and has had a great hoops run except for the tournament. The last 2 years in basketball can be put in one place, the HC; by the same token the last 2 years in football can also be attributed to the HC. Everyone here needs to remember, a schools success comes from within, not from your opponents or conference.

As a Temple fan you can somewhat relate- what made all of this really salty for UC fans is that a school 3 miles away that had been historically inferior to UC in every metric is given a “bump up” while UC was give a “bump down”. Truth be to be told it is hard for us to compete with them right now in basketball recruiting because of it.

On top of that we lost our one true all sports rival in Louisville (100 miles down the road). We were just starting to garner interests from casual fans locally and throughout the state when we played Pitt and WVU- interest that I had never seen before- I knew guys in Columbus who were OSU fans that would drive down to the game. That’s all gone. Those schools refuse to play us for the most part now (although Pitt is playing a H/H in FB in 2023 and 2024).

I am guessing UH fans would be really angry if Houston Baptist were added to the Big East tomorrow or as a non-FB member of the BXII.

Xavier has much more history than HBU. It is more akin to Rice.

Lol! I wasn't trashing Cincinnati just objectively stating facts since you are having a pissing contest with UH. SMU hasn't done anything in the post-season to further the cause. Cincinnati hasn't either. Those are the facts. Only Houston and UCF have done anything to further the P6 cause in football and basketball. Grow a pair!

My pair is just fine thank you. I'm not having a pissing contest. Overreact much? I'm simply saying that you throw out Cincinnati hasn't done anything to advance the conference/further the cause and yet you ignore the big, red whitehead zit on the end of your SMU nose. We lost in the peach bowl by a few points [closing seconds field goal]. We have a great chance to get right back to the NY6 next season. Again, what has SMU done to advance the cause of the AAC over Cincinnati? I'm waiting...

This thread isn't about SMU. It's about Houston and Cincinnati. I simply stated that Houston has done more for the American than Cincinnati. 2 Sweet 16's and a NY6 Bowl victory for Houston. Cincinnati nothing, SMU nothing, everyone else other than UCF nothing.

Does earning the NY6 bowl appearance for the 2020 season not count? I'd day it does. I like Houston as well, but saying Cinci is irrelevant is ridiculous.

Now that UC actually had a “good” season in football which has a chance for a pretty big stage i ask myself as a Texan in a city that has a lot of foreigners and people out of state, “how often do I see a Cincinnati bearkats fans??” The answer is literally never. I live in the DFW area, and I’m out a lot. I can spot a lot of logos while I’m out and about and of the AAC schools UC/temple are the last anyone wears.

When UC got “good” at football, who noticed???

UCF had a legit claim to a title, Memphis had NFL caliber talent and Houston beat some of the highest ranked teams and draft picks.

Houston and UCF go down as CFB darlings and Houston is even a perennial basketball talent now after making consecutive sweet 16’s and being the class of the AAC in basketball.

All this to be said, UC. You’re not contributing more than any other school in the American. You might as well get comfortable and try to actually enjoy your time here and try to be the class of the conference because as far as I’m (a more casual sports fan) concerned Memphis and UCF were way ahead of you as well as UConn so if you want to be a National program and ditch us since you always felt you were too good to be here despite your mediocre results you’ll need some casual fans to join you.

This will end well...

It gives us G5 superiority but does not further the P6 cause. I never said Cincinnati was irrelevant. I'm simply arguing that Houston has done more to further the P6 argument. The only team that has done more is UCF with their 2 NY6 wins. In order to be P6 we have to regularly beat P5 teams in post-season play.

They do not have the cash, academics, branding or FB history of Rice; but your point is noted about HBU. Still, you get my point.

This is the best reply yet. I actually have empathy, not sympathy for this.

Puts it in perspective as to why UC fans can’t stand our conference where as a Houston fan of course we are sour our best would be and historical rivals are in the b12 or SEC, but on the bright side this is infinitely better than c-usa and since the turn of the century Houston has had the most success and attention on their athletic program since joining the American.

Thanks for the post I’ll chill on the troll bait

I'm no huge UC fan, but I do feel some Bearcats fan should've used the word "Skullet" by now.
