Dallas Baptist is the school with no women's basketball. And DBU has no football which should lessen their value to the Southland.

Correct. DBU has no football. It has no need for football, especially at the FCS level. See HBU...HBU bit off more than they can chew, in my opinion...they'd be a really good D-II school-no offense intended, as I'm a D-II guy. DBU and HBU are similar-sized institutions with a similar value system and a common affiliation. HBU has a larger endowment, but is also more expensive. I presume HBU is pushing them hard for the Southland.
Also, would DBU want to move their successful baseball program from the MVC to the Southland? The travel expenses would be cut (bus trips within TX and LA as opposed to flights to places like Illinois). The Southland has been pretty good in baseball, but they've lost some of that strength with the schools that left.
DBU would need to start women's basketball. They really should do that anyway. They are fortunate to be able to pair up with Texas Woman's University (women's hoops only) for travel in their current and past conference.
Their gym is fairly recently remodeled, and is very nice with primarily theater-type seating. It only seats 1500.
The kicker, though, is that there's no market for them in the Dallas-Fort Worth area outside of their alums and others associated with the school. They would become the 5th D-I school in the Metroplex, and that doesn't count the big state schools (UT, A&M, Tech, OU, etc.) with massive fan bases in the area.
