Rockets make Top 6 for LB/DE out of Canton, OH. Could you imagine Candle landing this one?

RE: 2022 Football Recruiting Thread
I saw on Twitter that Avery Smith’s Riverwood Ga HS team won the prestigious UGA statewide HS 7v7 tourney and a photo is posted of Smith holding the trophy. A rivals beat writer posted he was very impressed with Smith’s multi game performance.

I’m sure the UT coaches were there (early June) , I think we offered afterwards. He visited last weekend and then quickly committed.

Very solid offer list...wonder if we're looking at him as a LB or a DE vs. what other schools are doing. I would guess that will come into play quite a bit in his decision...would be a solid add.

I would guess the primary reason he has UT on the list is that 2 of his classmates are in UT's '21 signing class. We'll see if that's enough to get him to sign.

Akron-Canton has become the new Pittsburgh, as UT's preferred recruiting mecca, as in addition to the 2 Canton McKinley players, UT has 3 from Stow, 1 from Akron and 1 from Massillon. Perhaps I am missing someone.

NC...You are right about Canton area being a recruiting target area. UT recruited Stow’s QB Bainbridge (‘22) hard but he got confused and committed to BG. Quite honestly he is a pure pocket passer and we already have a couple like him. I like our guy Smith. I doubt we recruit a 2nd QB unless one goes Portal trippin.

UT has had a remarkably low number of portal “out” transfers. That’s a healthy sign. UT is a stable program. Players like the environment.

There is a prep school QB from California (whose name I now forget) that was at the recent UT camp, and if you looked at his twitter feed it was filled with posts about UT recruiting materials. Based on that, I was thinking he was the one UT was really going after, so I was surprised to see the GA fellow's verbal.

Thanks for update... Arkansas is coming back under Pittman. He’s a good coach. That was his highest profile offer but not his best. Good luck to him.

He may be back.

Go Rockets!

Well, that was quite the timely post as the California QB whose name I could not remember ... well, he verballed to UT today:

Colton Fitzgerald, 6'3 200# QB, AHOP Christian Leadership Academy, NC, via Saugus HS, Saugus CA.
https://www.hudl.com/profile/9569448/Colton-FitzGerald
https://247sports.com/Player/Colton-Fitz...-46101599/

247 shows no offers, but I need to check his twitter.

So, that's 2 QBs, a bunch of defensive players, a WR or two ... where are the offensive linemen?

RE: 2022 Football Recruiting Thread
Only other offer I see for Fitzgerald is from Incarnate Word. So, very under the radar player apparently, although this article:

https://247sports.com/Article/California...165797038/

says he was getting interest from Michigan State, NC State and UCLA, if you believe his coach.

Wonder how he got on Toledo's radar?

Thank you the updates. I love all UT recruiting. Two “quiet” commits for UT at QB.I trust Wiener and the staff to judge D1 talent

Fitzgerald is a very interesting prospect. Both QB’s are for sure. So he plays a senior spring 5 game senior season and is now a 5th year senior in California. I’m trying figure that out. Any input as to why that is the program? To be recruited? Play against better competition?

I think OL Spoth is a gray shirt for 2022. Yes... we need high quality offensive linemen

Go Rockets!

It’s possible Smith is a walk-on since he has not been listed on 247

RE: 2022 Football Recruiting Thread
I think it’s going to be very difficult to hold onto Fitzgerald. He’s going to be rated a very high 3* after his senior season is completed or even earlier. There is a Wiltfong article on 247 about “California QB’s pursuing another year for exposure” and it compares Fitzgerald to already 4* rated QB’s. There is also a video of him working out at a camp. Wiltfong from 247 raves about Fitzgerald. Toledo is his first D1 FBS offer. He will get some P5 before signing day. UT will have to work hard to hold onto this kid.

Go Rockets!

He's going to prep school in NC for a season, yes I think because he and his team feel he was underrecruited. One article I saw said he put on 40# and grew 2 inches between his junior and senior years, and greatly improved his arm strength in that time. So, a prep school year gives him another season to mature and show off, without wasting a year of college eligibility. The UT offer came after he announced he was going to prep school, I think.

New transfer commit, WR Brayden Fox from Rutgers. Looks like he was a 2021 early enrollee from Archbishop Hoban.

His uncle is Dustin Fox who co-runs afternoon show on 92.3 in Cleveland meaning Toledo will get some love and publicity from that show…
