At any rate this is why message board fans don't get to decide stuff.

People keep positing schools that will never come ever ina billion billion years. They were only willing to come before and ignore travel distance because they thought they were getting power conference/BCS cash. So they are not coming at all...ever.

Then someone always posts Colorado State but eww not GSU. Colorado State's last winning season 2017. Last bowl? 2017. Last bowl win? 2013. Last bowl win before that 2008.

We have been to bowls 4 of the last 7 years. And before someone says it I amino pimping GSU. It's just hilarious how much some SBC fans hate us because of who, what and where we are.

And you should learn from history---cuz everyone else has. Selecting crappy programs without brands just because they are in a big market is how CUSA went from a 1.4 million a school TV deal to a 200K per school TV deal.....so, while history has shown us that foolish selections can be made during realignment---we now have also learned that conferences will pay a heavy price if they make those kinds of foolish selections. Thus---the AAC has learned that is better to do nothing if only bad moves are available....just be patient and wait until a quality addition separates from the scrum and becomes clearly evident to everyone.
South Carolina

The list goes on and on.

Your record the season you're invited or even the past couple of seasons before getting invited is irrelevant.

Don't get mad at history.

lol...so now Georgia State is Mizzo, Syracuse, S Carolina, Rutgers, Maryland, and Pitt? ALL those schools were decades at the P5 level. Hell, even Tulane had decades in the SEC before they went indy and then joined CUSA......so--if YOU knew your history, you'd know Georgia St is not Mizzo, S Carolina, Syracuse, Maryland, Rutgers or Pitt. And if you knew your history, you'd know Georgia State isnt even Tulane...heck, they arent even close to being Tulane.
Don't be obtuse. Surely you're smarter than this. It's the history of the last realignment in all conferences. What matters is cultural fit, institutional support, and then maybe 3rd or 4th what was their record. Record is a snapshot and every program is a hire away from winning a conference or going 0-12.

Frankly I bcould care less. As I have posted before we are fine where we are. If anything I want more regional schools on our schedule. You will find that most GSU fans have pined for the Big East/AAC for 20 plus years. I have backed off that in the last few years.

Now where did the stAte dude go who started this thread?

Again, records are irrelevant, as is your market. How many colleges are in the New England area that play D1? It's how well known are you. That's it.

"their 24/7 writer" seems to not understand that we are trying to separate ourselves from the G4, not cement our membership in the G5. And I'm sorry that is not a very nice thing to say, but it is the truth. Unfortunately, ESPECIALLY in College Football, perception IS reality, and the perception of us taking a school from anywhere except the very tip-top of the MW or independents is a sidestep at best.

To me this is interesting. I get the desire to take the best available team, but at the same time, we brought in mid-tier/bottom dwellers with little support or interest like Tulsa at one point. Tulane wasn't a world-beater either but I know they are an academic elite. ECU brought a fan base, but has had practically zero success as a member of this conference. Were these not considerations at the start of the AAC? Obviously BSU and SDSU nearly happened, but after they pulled out...?

UCF shouldn’t complain about Tulsa until they can win a game every now and then.

Don't listen to the smart asses. Except me. BYU, Boise, SDSU seem to be probably the most talked about.

RE: Expansion question
I’ve said it before, but Georgia State has UCF/USF level potential. Huge enrollment, huge market, big state, top tier high school football, and good facilities. Doesn’t mean we should send an invite now, but they are my preferred candidate outside of some combination of BYU/Boise/SDSU/Air Force.

take away UAB's history with the GMC & CUSA v1.0 & 2.0, its hard to scratch up a nickles worth of difference between them and Georgia St. UAB's med school is higher rated but Ga St's media market is a monster. both schools will always be on 3rd tit in their states and dont really move the needle in national prestige. ESPN will tell us who they want and I'm comfortable thinking those 2 schools arent on their radar.

I notice you never mention fan support. I guess because GA St has none. Again, until GA St gathers support from the Atlanta region, it won't get any interest from the AAC. AND GA St won't grow fan support until they begin to win consistently - whether you believe it or not.

I doubt AAC fans are worried about expansion right now. They’re preoccupied with the Cowboy Frog realignment bombshell that came out yesterday.

There's an argument to be made that perhaps AAC fans should be glad that there appear to be multitudes of fans of G5 teams that seem to be hoping, beyond hope, to make their way into the AAC in the future.

At least, one could say that, even if it's a minor annoyance to keep coming across those kinds of posts, it's a much better "problem" to have than the opposite - - which would be a complete absence of interest in joining the conference.

.

On the other hand, it does seem slightly puzzling that there are a handful of true believers in their (usually FB, it seems) or BB programs that are extraordinarily persistent in posting, despite having gotten a steady stream of discouraging responses.

Examples have included UAB, ODU, Georgia State, and a few others, and there have also been inquires about Arkansas St., NDSU, and a host of others.

The thing is that none of these schools are anywhere near the top of the list when it comes to possible expansion candidates.

.

Not to discourage guys from Georgia State or another school from participating in the discussions on this board - - to the contrary, the more the merrier, but...

The truth is that programs such as UAB, Georgia State, and ODU are probably 3 or 4 tiers below the tier of schools that would receive strong consideration for AAC membership:

Tier 1: Most of these would probably be welcomed into the AAC at some point in the near or foreseeable future, and might even prompt the conference to expand to 14 teams.

BYU (FB/all-sports)
Boise (FB)
Air Force (FB)
Army (FB)
SDSU (FB)
VCU (BB)
Dayton (BB)

Tier 2: Some of these might have a shot in a few years, if they're consistently successful, if the conference loses one or two teams, and needs to reload, or decides to expand.

Appalachian State (FB)
Marshall (FB)
Louisiana (FB)
St. Louis (BB)
Loyola (IL) (BB)
SDSU (all-sports?)

Tier 3: These might be considered at some point, if they improve dramatically, or if the conference were to lose 3+ teams in a realignment.

UAB (FB)
Buffalo (FB (possibly BB?))
Davidson (BB)
New Mexico St (BB)
Richmond (BB)
URI (BB)

Tier 4: Might receive consideration one day, if the conference were to lose several teams and had to reboot as "AAC 1.1"

UMass (FB or all-sports)
WKU (all-sports)
Drake (BB)
ODU (BB)
Rice (?) - - If the conference should ever need to add an AAU university.

Tier 5: Probably wouldn't be considered under any circumstances, unless the conference were to completely implode and attempt to reboot as AAC 2.0.

FAU, FIU, Georgia St., or
Georgia Southern - - If the conference were to implode and lose most of its southeastern members

Tier 6: Probably wouldn't be considered under any circumstances

FCS FB schools (NDSU)

......................................................................................................

The point is that, unless the "Tier 5" teams suddenly become the Boise State of the southeastern U.S., it doesn't seem likely that any of those schools would ever be invited to join the American, unless it were to lose so many teams that it would end up being less competitive than the conferences that they're currently in...

...and if that were to happen, such schools would probably lose any interest that they once might have had in joining the conference.

......................................................................................................

Regardless it would be interesting if anyone else has a different set of "Tiers" that they would arrange the various schools into. Some might rate UAB as a Tier 2, rather than a Tier 3 or SDSU (all-sports) as a Tier 1...

RE: Expansion question
You know you've made it when two outa conference fans are arguing to be in your conference on the sports board. This how 'Bama fans feel? Don't know but it feels good.

That's it.
Just for the record I never mentioned our market nor GSU to AAC.

If your league were to expand by 2 or lost 2 members and had to replace them, who would be your top 3 schools to add to your league?

I doubt AAC fans are worried about expansion right now. They’re preoccupied with the Cowboy Frog realignment bombshell that came out yesterday.

Care to expound on that?

Selecting crappy programs without brands just because they are in a big market is how CUSA went from a 1.4 million a school TV deal to a 200K per school TV deal.....so, while history has shown us that foolish selections can be made during realignment---we now have also learned that conferences will pay a heavy price if they make those kinds of foolish selections. Thus---the AAC has learned that is better to do nothing if only bad moves are available....just be patient and wait until a quality addition separates from the scrum and becomes clearly evident to everyone.

I notice you never mention fan support. I guess because GA St has none. Again, until GA St gathers support from the Atlanta region, it won't get any interest from the AAC. AND GA St won't grow fan support until they begin to win consistently - whether you believe it or not.
