RE: NCAA Hockey Tournament Thread
Minnesota Duluth ousts North Dakota in the longest game in NCAA Tournament history — quintuple overtime.

There is no college hockey player that’s seen a national champion other than Minnesota-Duluth unless they’re a 5th year senior.

There will be one playing Duluth in the Frozen 4 actually. Gicewicz started at St Lawrence, had a red-shirt year in there, and is now at UMass.

He just had a hat trick yesterday against Bemidji and had another against Lake State the day before.

Looking forward to the National Championship rematch we're going to get to see in the Frozen 4. This UMass team is deeper than the one that Duluth manhandled 2 years ago. Doesn't have the crazy star power of a Makar out there, but overall more experienced and stronger.

Minnesota State beat Minnesota tonight, 4-0. So, the Frozen Four is UMass, Minnesota-Duluth, St Cloud State, and Minnesota State.

Minnesota State-Mankato plays St Cloud State, while UMass plays Minnesota-Duluth.

Big weekend for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. I know that's not their hockey conference, but it is the D-II conference that houses Duluth, St. Cloud, and Mankato in other sports.

NCAA Hockey Tournament Thread
It's too bad the SEC and/or the Pac-12 doesn't participate in NCAA hockey. I have to admit I'd probably be more interested if the SEC or even the Pac-12 had some teams in the Frozen Four. But I'm not surprised to see a whole bunch of Minnesota teams in. Minnesota is a hockey crazed state.

RE: NCAA Hockey Tournament Thread
West Coast expansion is definitely a possibility at some point. Arizona State already has a team, and the west coast is expanding in the pros as well in Seattle. Having a PAC conference in hockey would be great actually.

In all, the breakdown for states in the bracket this year was:
MN: 5 teams (Duluth, Minnesota, Minnesota St., Bemidji, St. Cloud)
MA: 4 teams (Massachusetts, BC, BU, AIC)
MI: 2 teams (Michigan, Lake State)
ND, NE, CT, WI, IN: 1 each

So yeah, the southern most team was Omaha Nebraska. Which is, well, not very south. Normally the western most would be Denver (though they're obviously not the westernmost team) but they had a down year this year. So instead the western most team was UND, which is about as central as you can get in the continental US. Only one team even plays in SEC country, and that's Alabama Hunstville.

There are club hockey teams in SEC country, but UAH was the only varsity team for awhile. Not sure if UAH still has their varsity hockey team or not.

Thoughts so far:

Way to go Duluth—-I can’t stand UND

When is Mankato going to get to join their MN brethren in the NCHC?

What a tournament for the state of MN!

So far MN teams have only been knocked out by other MN teams or UMass. That will be the case for the remainder of the tournament regardless of results.

Would be crazy for us to play three straight MN teams in order to win a title.

They do for now but they are on a very short leash, especially without a conference.

Hopefully things start trending in the right direction and we see expansion though. Get those club teams promoted and get a conference going. In related news, here's the update for ASU's arena (please kick off PAC expansion...):

I sure wouldn't want to play the Montreal Canadiens.

I hate St. Cloud State for that reason. Being from Boston makes it impossible to not hate any logo that resembles the Habs.

Well, ****.

Murray is capable in goal, not a massive downgrade there even though I would much prefer Lindberg. Gicewicz is a huge loss though.

This sounds like it's a specific UMass policy and not the NCAA policy though. Which is why I'm guessing it's not a full forfeit of the game like we saw earlier in the tournament. IF (and that's a big if at this point) the team ends up winning I hope the players can be back for the championship game, but I'm doubting that would be the case.

I'm watching this for you e-parade. BTW, why did UMass ever get rid of their iconic logo? That was one of the greatest logos in sports in the 90's.

On a side tirade...too many teams getting rid of classic "hand drawn" logos for Illustrator bs. As I typed this UMass scored, nice job. Back to what I was saying..look at Indiana State's redesign. Soulless robot crap.

I remember reading Indiana St’s message board the day that design came out. They wanted blood lol.

I can't believe Umass pulled that off. Great game. The defense was as solid as it could possibly have been and they dominated the OT - Shots on goal was something like 13-2. Watching the pregame stuff, the studio put the ultimate hex on UMD - they must have mentioned the three-peat possibility at least a dozen times!

Now they get all 4 covid players back for the final too including their best player.

^^ I think they mentioned the players would pile in a car and drive down if they needed to lol

Fairly certain my heart almost jumped out of my chest multiple times last night. What a game that was (both games yesterday were actually fantastic).

And yeah...the logo. All I'll say is that I'm very happy the Hockey team wears the fully spelled out "Massachusetts" on the jerseys. So much better that way.

Was a great overtime as UMD was out shooting UMass by a wide margin during regulation. Which made the OT so great as they dominated and back to back trips to the Championship game!

Since Denver didn't make the tournament, I will be cheering very hard for UMass to win the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, I mean, National Championship. Normally I would be supporting the D2 schools but I just can't do it for these schools.
