This feels like a sweet 16 or even elite 8 type of game. 43-42 Michigan at the half.

Yep. They made three tournaments in a row in the 2000's under Scott Sutton. Oral passed away in 2009 (I had to look it up).

These are their first tournament wins since 1974. I was little, and I barely remember it. I had no clue how significant it was, even in 1974. ORU was in its 9th year as a school and its 3rd year in Division I. They beat Syracuse in the first round (round of 32) in Denton. Then, the Midwest Regional just happened to be in Tulsa on ORU's home court. The Mabee Center was new, big, and modern in 1974. ORU beat Louisville in the Sweet 16, then played Kansas in the regional final. ORU was ahead by 9 points with 4 minutes to go, and lost to the Jayhawks in overtime. ORU didn't make the tournament again for another 10 years.

LSU isn't as good as Michigan, season results prove that. But LSU has as much talent as anyone. At least two of their guys are likely to be in the NBA next year. That gives them a "puncher's chance" against anyone left in the tournament. And right now, they are punching Michigan.

They may lose this game, like they lost at the end of the SEC tournament to Alabama, because LSU's Achille's Heel is inconsistency. But talent matters and it is why they are in this game.

No. The issue for LSU is the coach is a recruiter and not a floor coach. They play in spurts because of talent. They stand around when they lose focus and the coach does nothing, he doesn't even rotate fresh people in. That's why this team doesn't play to potential.

Michigan's win means the B1G is the 10th and last conference to punch its ticket to the Sweet Sixteen. And they may be the only B1G team (out of 9 chances) to make it.

All three remaining #1 seeds are still in the hunt.

Looks like Florida State has Colorado's number. The Pac-12 will finally take a loss.

Michigan saves the honor of the B1G.

Sweet 16 will have 12 schools from the 6 Major conferences, 3 from the upper Mid-Majors (5 conferences) and one from the single bid lower mid-major conferences.

76 credits earned by the majors (76 schools)
16 credits earned by the upper mids (56 schools)
27 credits earned by the lower mids (215 schools)

Who do you consider the upper Mid-Majors? AAC, A-10, WCC, MWC, MVC?

Incredibly, it looks like 10 of the Sweet 16 will be from west of the Mississippi River, or what Keith Jackson called "the big river":
Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, winner of USC/Kansas, Gonzaga, Creighton, Arkansas, Oral Roberts, Baylor, Houston.

It may not be a trend, but it's good to see.

Those would be my choices. The A10 and MWC are both on the sidelines for the Sweet Sixteen.

To you maybe. You know how I feel about it.

If I wanted to see a sport dominated by western teams, I'll watch the NBA.

But probably only four west of the Central Time Zone, all on the west coast. The Mountain Time Zone is shut out.
