Let’s coordinate this..they fire him, I’ll drive 8 hours to Columbus to pick him up to announce his becoming HC at UC.

Maybe Holtmann will go into the transfer portal and we can pick him up. There are probably one or two OS players we would mind him bringing along.

Actually their roster isn't that deep. They had quite a few guys leave since Holtman was there. It's been a revolving door of transfers.

Were the departures due to Draconian dress code rules?

D'Juan Baker with the 3 to save us. Hit nearly the exact same shot the next game against WVU. Should have had back to back game winners. Would have been a legend.

Yea. Baker was so clutch at the end of both games.

I think Ben Howland was the northern Arizona coach.

That Northern Arizona game was a nail biter. I vaguely remember it as a physically overmatched team that shot a lot of threes, shades of things to come. As for this OSU loss, I think this shows why "battle tested" wont help you in the first two rounds. When all you do is play teams that everyone tells you are great, you don't learn how to react when a team that is supposed to be lesser is playing at or above your level.

Since UH took care of business the 2 v 15 record is 133 to 9

AL v Iona and IA v GCU left on today's schedule.

So at the end of today a Ohio State University will likely be in the 9 out of 144 to flame out. In 36 years 9 embarrassing events. I am sure a Ohio State University will be cheering for Rick Pitino's Iona Gaels v Roll Tide and GCU v Iowa. Misery loves company.

WTF is wrong with people? It's just a basketball game.

Quote:Following the loss, Liddell shared screenshots of messages he said he received from the two disgruntled fans, including one who threatened to find and physically attack him. In responding to the pair of fans, Liddell asked, "What did I do to deserve this? I'm human."

Another fan wrote to Liddell: "You are such a f---ing disgrace. Don't ever show your face at Ohio State. We hate you. I hope you die I really do."

Agreed.

The other piece that gets lost in all this is that teams win and lose as a TEAM. We like to focus on the dropped pass, the missed QB read, the "wide right" or "wide left" kick as time expires, the blatant missed or blown whistle, or the Coach, but the outcome of a game is the whole series of events. A missed free throw that results in a losing margin is only the result of other missed shots. The game that can be decided by a singular referee's whistle is close because of all the other decisions that came before it. And, as so many others remind us, it's not the Coach who makes a shot, or catches the pass, or has to inbound the ball.

Where it gets frustrating is when a player consistently displays a lack of competence, or a Coach's gameplanning or preparation continually fall short, or a referee crew continually makes a hash out of the game. Then, fans might be justified in "calling out" a pattern of poor play.

But you're never justified in threatening someone's safety or well-being. That's just plain criminal and ought to be treated as such.

Holtmann has a very Cronin like tournament record. Even worse at Ohio State as his only Sweet 16 came with Butler. Six tournament wins in 10 seasons.

Huggins I believe has 34 in 35 years at the division 1 level.

It’s hard to get to the tournament and win games.

OSU t-shirt fans are some of the worst out there... remember they chased Herbstreit out of Columbus because they wanted him to be “more” of a homer to OSU. They said he was not a real Buckeye (even though he graduated from there and spent 5 years on campus).

We had fans sending not so nice things after the Nevada game. No threats of physical harm that I recall but there is a lunatic fringe in each fanbase.

Definitely. The bigger the fan base, the larger number of crazy 2%ers you have.

And the bigger the fanbase, the higher percentage of it that never stepped foot on campus. OSU alums have always seemed pretty even keeled about sports in my experience. In fact, I'd say at least half of the ones I've known or worked with don't care about them or follow them very passively. The t-shirts, though, are terrible. Their fandom is their only connection to the university, so they crank the dial on that up to 11. Now, develop a national fanbase like schools like OSU have, and you get thousands of rabid fans who haven't even stepped foot into Ohio. They don't care about the university at all. It's just a winning bandwagon that they can jump on to feel good about themselves, and when that bandwagon lets them down, look out.

I think UC is in that in the middle sweet spot. We are a regional brand, yet most of our fans have some kind of direct connection to the university. I know we all want more of a presence and to grow the fanbase, but we should be careful of what we wish for.

Wife is an alum of tOSU as is most of her family (her dad played baseball there back in the early sixties). Very even keeled and respectful bunch. My coworkers in Columbus say they are embarrassed by the t-shirts, but recognize these are the folks buying all the beer and merch that goes to the athletic department

ND is the same way. The folks who went to college there are mostly a reasonable lot, but the bandwagon fans are often insufferable.

So did I. With Baylor not playing their best basketball late in the season, OSU had a very manageable path to the Final Four.

I attended OSU my freshman year, but never jumped on the bandwagon, as my UC fandom is too strong. That said, my wife and her parents are alumni and I've lived in Columbus for 12 years, so I follow OSU athletics fairly closely. As others have said, graduates are usually fairly reasonable, and most have favorable opinions of UC -- especially now that Fickell leads our football program. The t-shirt fans though are the worst.
