Marquette is in the Big East, has been to the Dance 32 times (half of those, they’ve been to the Sweet 16), 3 final fours, and has won a national championship. And, oh yeah, they pay their coach $2 million. They are on a totally different level.

I’m much more interested in the happenings in west Richmond. I feel like our situation is much more similar to theirs than to Marquette’s.

Wow the committee really screwed things up in the south. Lots of overrated teams. With North Texas winning you could also.make the case that CUSA basketball isn't as bad as we think, just under valued,, at least the top 4 or 5 teams. Maybe WKY should have been considered for an at large over Clemson or some other 6th best team in their conference

Coach, are you referring to the University of Richmond?

CUSA had 5 top 100 teams. ODU competed well with each of those that they played.... north Texas is the perfect mid major to make a run. Experienced. Good guard play. Great defense. Good shooters. The matchup with Purdue was a perfect one for them.

Mid majors will win games. The gap between a top 30 and a top 60 team isnt “that” great. That doesnt mean western Kent deserved a spot.

Marquette has the resources (and talent) to be a consistent top 4 seed. If you cant even come close with Carton and Garcia, that does not bode well.

Yes. They’ve had zero tournament appearances in 10 years. They were preseason top 25 this year by many accounts and finished like 8th in the A10.

Started to read it, but when the author said the NCAA should have paid for all participants to get a covid vaccine he turned me off. Not because I'm opposed to vaccine, I'm not. But because of the incredibly entitled attitude.

The point was you set high standards for your programs, regardless of conference, $$$, whatever. There's no reason our standards shouldn't be adjusted upward. I don't think we're at our full potential and when we're not changes should be made. I bet you don't think we're there either.

Of course, I don’t. And of course I’m not satisfied with where we are. But, my point is that it’s fruitless to compare us to Marquette, when the more apt comparisons are Richmond, Charlotte, Marshall, WKU, etc.

It’d be easy to make a case that each of those programs should fire their coaches. None have. I assume that means it’s a lot easier for a fan to say, “hey, I’m not happy, make a change,” than it is to find a way to find that change.

Who cares? Its not even the point of the article.

Its not that expensive. But, for some reason I think I had to email them to gain access. Its been some years

RE: The 2021 NCAA tournament thread
Here are some fun ones for ODU:

Offense/Defense (PPP):

Reece .837/1.019
Green .65/.787
Kalu -1.017/.8
Curry- .917/.935
Hunter- .915/.696
Oliver- .986/.893
Long- .858/.852
Trice- .891/.591

This is why Im not all that concerned with Reece. He is by far our worst defensive player.

Im also praying Kalu comes back.

Hunter getting more minutes next year if Curry leaves should greatly improve our defense, particulary along the 3 point line.

We are going to need someone on the wing to step up and provide the defense that Green did.

If Trice comes back, that would be a plus.

Not surprised, but you left out a very key reason in your analysis. North Texas also has a couple of post players with legitimate size at 6'-10 240+ LBS to match up with the size of the post players that the big conference schools tend to have.

UNT didnt match up with them inside. Purdue had 18 offensive rebounds and williams posted a double double. Simmons and Ousmane did nothing. But UNT made shots and didnt turn the ball over so they were eilling to trade in some boards.

UNT ran the same pick and roll action over 50% of the time to get the Purdue big man on the perimter. And they ate him up and it clearly worked. Thats what makes Bell/simmons so tougg defensively is bc they can hold their own on switches. And why OUsmane doesnt play much unless there is foul trouble.

The UNT front court is fantastic defensively. Even though they didn’t score they made their presence felt. That Purdue big man didn’t get it going till late. Purdue had a bunch of offensive rebounds on long misses from outside jumpers. UNT stays in front of you soo well. They don’t gamble on D. A very conservative style but very effective.

i am just tired of the crappy 6th or 7th rated team from the ACC or Big10 getting into the tournament and going out in the first round when there are, at minimum, equally as good if not better teams outside the blue blood conferences.

UNT starts 4 seniors, mids with 4 yr players is the ticket to make a run. I also don't think that was even close to the same Perdue team we faced in '19, they were stronger.

I would bet the use of the NET ratings has cut mid-major at-large bids by 50%.
