Anyone know what's going on with the HAF? As far as I can tell, Andrew Joannides has not yet been replaced. There are a total of 4 HAF employees listed, which includes 2 administrative staff. This is the time of year when the annual push for donations and the reminder phone calls take place. Also, the communications about season tickets should be going out. I know that we are still in the pandemic, but there have been very few communications. Anyone know if there is still a HAF?

I've never understood why they haven't used NIU students who are communications, sports admin, journalism, and marketing majors as free interns. You don't need paid employees to generate emails, make phone calls, generate graphics, deliver schedules and posters to local businesses, write articles for niuhuskies.com website, etc.

It would also help give NIU students working experience utilizing the skills they plan to use once they enter the workforce.

My fraternity used to call alumni on behalf of the university and ask for donations.

RE: Huskie Athletic Fund
In a similar vein, couple years ago I proposed on the board that some kind of deal be worked out with business/marketing and communications for a semester-to-semester, faculty-supervised program to market Huskie athletics. Some academic project credit might be attached, as well as résumé credit. The program would develop an on-campus and community marketing program(s), since athletics doesn't seem to have much (or any). Of course nothing came of it that I'm aware.

Also, I noted that minutes of the Huskie Fan Advisory Board board have not been posted since Oct. 2019.

Some interesting stuff, including mention of fund-raising and cutting the COA: The link for the latest (Nov. 2020) athletic board minutes is ...

I wonder if Facebook will advertise or sponsor with NIU athletics with their Dekalb data center on the way?

Moving back to the OP, good points. Time is getting tight for a short-staffed department to get moving on some of this. The minutes don't mention the HAF but do the NIU Foundation. Wonder if consolidation (like student recreation being moved over to athletics) has shifted the management to the NIUF? But still haven't heard much.

We are merely the few fans NIU has left. We are just season ticket holders and donors. We are not the big mega donors and others who kiss some admin. booty, so we do not deserve to know anything. We are pawns who serve as audiences to clap for and ooh and ahh over the anointed ones. Once we all realize that our prime job is to empty our wallets and bank accounts a couple times a year and then shut up, we will be able to take better comfort in knowing our true purpose and responsibilities.

Agree. Problem is (for the ADept., at least), some of us don't accept that as "our true purpose and responsibilities" and never will. Said this on another thread: know some long, long-time fans who are saying "the hell with it." Be a real shame to see that mantra replace "the hard way" among the die-hards. Need a shake-up, wake-up in athletics. But seems unlikely.

That's part of the reason I chase those meeting minutes. There are some nuggets in there. Not much, but some. I'd like to see STF expand his "Frazier's Corner" with an "insider's view" note(s) at least giving us a clue; maybe a "challenges ahead" item. Show us some trust. We're not the enemy ... but the ranks are thinning.

We all know that the HAF and athletic department is having financial troubles. We here in this board are not the problem. The problem is NIU alumni do not support the school like bigger schools alumni. We have many wealthy alums that have never contributed a penny. This is real problem. NIU is a good school but alums don't promote it

My query was answered today in Frazier’s Corner. Steven Donahue was hired to replace Andrew and will start on Monday. Also, there was turnover in the ticket office, and Colin Bruning was re-hired to fill the void. Communications on HAF and season ticket renewal are supposed to come by the end of March.

Frazier also says that fans will be allowed in outdoor Huskie events, within CDC guidelines. 2,000 fans will be allowed in Huskie Stadium for the spring game on April 10.

I assume season ticket holders will get priority for games during the regular season. If they are still only allowing less than 10% capacity.
