RE: Campaign for W&M Athletics
I think (hope?) the word "begin" isn't accurate. Clearly we already had a design -- how far along the process of reducing that design to actual construction documents had progressed pre-COVID, I don't know.

I have to assume they're not starting over from scratch (what an unjustifiable waste that would be!), but instead will be tweaking and finalizing the existing design concept. Maybe COVID-related issues (super fancy ventilation!!!) or other considerations that have come up in the interim will require some of the tweaks to be substantial. Maybe not.

The school has also been using Kaplan for mass testing, which could've slowed down construction.

Speaking for myself, of course, but I don't have a lot of money. When I give, my money goes to people or causes I trust. I have a very hard time giving money to something that is paying Huge or Shaver to sit at home.

I am over Huge and Shaver...they are long gone and the College, led by Jeremy Martin, has gone a long way
in healing and supporting our program.

If you believe in the vision and want to give your hard earned money, then do it. If you are displeased or just don't want to, then don't. Everybody has their reasons and none of them are right or wrong.

If Rowe and/or Martin don't allow fans at the last UR game, there will be hell to pay. This could get real ugly real quick.

Bubba, I know you just make statements and won't respond, but my post had nothing to do with the people you so easily dismiss, so I'll write again: If I only have $100.00 to donate, it ain't going to pay dead salaries. I'd prefer to give my money to something like an undergrad study abroad stipend, to sponsor a QB Club golf hole, or designate it for our athletics equipment department.

When CoC introduced its new basketball coach he announced to those assembled that "Gonzaga did it. Why not here?"

https://www.postandcourier.com/sports/co...aa349.html

At our house we thought the "All In" presentation last week was a really good production. Everyone with a speaking part was polished and sincere. It might work and $55M will be raised. Any "vision" beyond better facilities and more sustainability, however, remains blurry. What are the desired outcomes?

Seeing the CoC coach's pronouncement left me thinking three things. CAA basketball, even having lost a pretty good coach to BC, might be tougher year in and year out going forward. The Tribe's path to the NCAA tournament could be tougher. Lastly I was reminded of a left handed coach from Newport News arriving in College Park at the height of the John Wooden era and saying Maryland could become the UCLA of the east. Lefty had a vision, and so does the new CoC coach. It is a bold one. It will generate energy and pry open purses and wallets.

In Williamsburg it's unclear if the vision is simply to remain in the same league as CoC in basketball and JMU in football, or to be able to go toe to toe with them every season. The former will complicate raising funds. The latter probably involves changes beyond raising additional funds that may be unpalatable. The former also leaves Tribe athletics in the worst kind of purgatory. Mediocrity at the end of every season is a huge headwind for an effort to engage and build community. Which vision is it?

RE: Campaign for W&M Athletics
It is incredibly rare to find coaches like Laycock, Daly, and Shaver to stay around for long periods of time. It's not about winning games or making it to the playoffs, it's about building a program that is sustainable and can grow. Every dynasty has an end, and the smart ones know when to step down. That's why a tear down and rebuild is so hard. Even great new coaches need time to recruit and build a program in their image and not one that they inherit.

$55 million will replentish the reserves and provide a nice cushion for the department. Trust me that the costs will continue to rise over time, and until we can start generating revenue, we will need continuous donations. Like I said in another post, big donors are critical. Lots of small donors don't help in the short run, but once people are used to giving, they put it on autopilot. Piss them off, and well.........we know how that goes.

Minor detail, but does anyone know whether All In donations count toward the required contributions for MBB season tickets? Or do they have to be specifically Tribe Club donations. Or are they one and the same?

Can anyone clarify this issue. Does a contribution April 13 get credited toward donations for seating and parking for football and basketball?

I will get clarification on this for you tomorrow. All In donations certainly should count as Tribe Club donations, and therefore, count toward your donation requirements. But I will check into it.

Hi All. I just got confirmation. Yes, any gift made to Tribe Athletics on OTOD or through All In before the ticket deadline will count toward football/basketball priority seating.

Happy OTOD, everyone!

I'm glad they made that change. In 2019 I was told that only donations made during the same fiscal year as the football/basketball season, starting July 1, would count toward priority seating. I prefer to give a monthly gift, but that meant that all contributions had to be made in July, August, and September.

This may be obvious to everyone else but where do I go to track the fundraising goals for each sport and how they are doing against those goals?
