I received the email as well. My guess is that anybody who has donated in the past probably got it.

Have the football and basketball programs achieved their funding targets?

I view this as positive. I'd much rather have this as a University wide effort. Much broader net to cast. Plus, for the Bold is over and it makes sense to try to keep pushing for donations.

I’m definitely not in the “big donor” club, I’m more of a long-time/routine giver, so I agree with Mr J’s analysis.

Happy to see they’re reaching out to a wider audience...I always felt like the Huge Crew only cared about the “whales” amongst us.

I also got it and am a pretty small donor. But, if they need funds to finish off the Kaplan renovations, I'll happily chip in.

Agree. It's nice to receive these emails, even as a small donor, because it makes me feel acknowledged that I've helped in the past and might be able to help again. Do that for enough people, and there can be an impact (see IPTAY).

Is that 1,000 dollars or 1,000 internet points?

I paid the $25 registration fee for the Lord Botetourt Auction.
I intended the fee as a donation and had no intention of bidding on anything.
Today I was surprised to receive a box full of Tribe merchandise to recognize
my payment for the auction.
This is a great way to strengthen connections with donors but can we really afford
this right now? It was just $25.

That's probably a question better directed to the AD office, but I would assume that the cost to the College for that box of merch was less than the $25 you donated. And if it turns you into someone who does this every year, it's a good investment.

It's called priming your pump. Give enough little things and people may feel compelled to bid

I'm glad to see we're getting some of our more notable sports alumni like Tomlin and Jill Ellis involved.

Seems like a great campaign, I hope we can hit the 55 million sooner rather than later.

RE: Campaign for W&M Athletics
I sat in on the Zoom call at 6:30 last night that preceded the big campaign announcement at 7:00. I thought that both events were very well done, but I have to admit that at the time I was still left a bit confused on where we stand with respect to the Kaplan project. I walked away from both events clearly understanding that we want to raise $55 million over the next 3 years, and that $33 million of this will go towards what I am loosely referring to as the Kaplan project. I also believe that we were told, during either the 6:30 Zoom Call or the 7:00 announcement, that $17 million of the overall $55 million goal had already been raised, but I do not believe that at any point we were told how much of the $17 million was going towards the $33 million. The last question that swirled around in my head was why do we need an additional $33 million for the project when, during Huge's grand announcement 13 months ago, she said that $41 million had been pledged and that we needed to raise an additional $20 million.

The following article in this morning's Virginian Pilot adds a bit of clarity.

https://www.pilotonline.com/sports/colle...story.html

So now I clearly understand that we need an additional $33 million but that the initial $41 million is still pledged. So I guess that the price has gone up considerably. But what I don't get is if we already have $41 million pledged, why do we have to still raise an additional $7.5 million before we can "begin" the design phase that we hope to start as early as the end of CY2021. I must be going crazy because i thought that the design phase was due to start shortly after the big announcement in February 2020.

I know that all of us knew at this point that the Grand Opening of the new Kaplan was not going to take place in November 2022 as originally announced. But I guess that I had no idea how very far behind that we really are. I can only guess that Covid is the major culprit.
