Wow. That was quite the tenure.

I assume coach used the portal to fill immediate needs, and started looking to the future immediately after. I’m guessing we still have a couple of pieces we expect to get next season.

If i recall correctly that leaves us with 2 open slots. We definitely need a big and a wing and looks like we are in Kaiden Rice's top 8 so he would definitely fill in that wing spot at 6'7

Regular signing period begins Wednesday.
Elijah Tate is the only commit that is required to wait til then. He’s a frosh at Odessa.

So we have 3 scholarships available right?

If the NCAA would do their job and confirm immediate eligibility, roster limit, and whether the returning SRs count as a use of scholarship..... I could give an answer. It’s all becoming so confusing.

1. Lovan
2. Jemison
3. Toney
4. Gordon

5. Buffen
6. Johnson
7. Locure
8. Brown- Grad transfer

9. Ertel
10. Jackson

11. Tate

If 8, 9, & 10 count as a scholarship still, then 2 spots left. If those three don’t count as a scholarship, then I don’t know where we go from there. As it stands, we would have 5 spots for November.

We are his 1st offer. I'm liking how coach is now going after the young guys instead of completely relying on the portal

sorry this one

Wouldn’t be surprised if Ard and TSG’s spots are filled by the portal. As much as young guys would be nice, I feel that we have voids to fill that require experience.

The list of transfers that I’ve seen via Twitter linked to us via actual tweets, not from follow lists is:

Deivon Smith, miss state
Mikey Henn, Portland
Ayo Akinwole, Omaha
Kaiden Rice, The Citadel
Marlon Ruffin, Omaha
Josh Roberts, St Johns
Jordan Goldwire, Duke
Ahmed Ali, Portland

The assistants have followed a lot bigger names than that but also some other mid major players. Kennedy’s last follow was Brown a few hours before he committed.

TSG leaving is the one that hurts. He’s a great guy and great perimeter defender. Wouldn’t be surprised if he transfers to a better conference.

I was hoping that he would finish his career here. Potential playing time was probably the deciding factor.

I understand that the NCAA hasn't finalized their decision, so I know what you're saying, but I think at this point it's pretty clear what it's going to be--or all these kids wouldn't be transferring.

Ertel and Jackson's scholarships will NOT count against the 13 scholarship limit, as seniors repeating their last years with us (TSG or Nicholson would not have either, so I especially hate to lose them in that light). Brown should, since he is a transfer this year.

So according to that math, we should have four scholarships available. I hope we get a couple of more transfers with at least a couple of years of eligibility left, and maybe a couple of high school kids. (Though I would be happy to take a certain grad transfer senior forward/center with just one year left, or a certain grad transfer small forward who can shoot, or any senior PG who is ready to come in and start.)

I hate losing TSG. He wouldn't have started and probably knew his minutes would be down. But he would've been a valuable player off the bench with his versality and length on defense.

We only had a glimpse of Ard before his ACL injury, but he's someone I thought could have helped us. We're pretty thin in the frontcourt now.

Regarding Kaiden Rice, this is from April 1st that we somehow missed. https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/...e-best-fit

“I would say that I am a scorer with an emphasis on shooting the three. I have heard I play similarly to Klay Thompson because he is also a tall guard who can shoot the heck out of the ball, and also create a little as well,” Rice said.

UAB: “Assistant coach Philip Pearson is the main recruiter for me here. They are in the Conference USA which is a pretty good conference traditionally. As soon as they called me they put a big emphasis on wanting me to come there and score the ball. Not necessarily just by the three, but in other ways as well.”

What’s Next?: “I would say it’s a mix of everything, history, roster, playing time, relationship, location, level. I just have to figure out what means the most to me as I move along through this process, because at the end of the day I’m looking for the perfect fit. I have no leeway because I do only have one year let in college, so I have to get this decision right. I haven’t really come up with a time frame, I am just taking in what each school has to offer. I definitely do not want to rush this.”

I’ve read stuff on Twitter by many scouts that say Pearson strikes out a ton in recruiting. His prior stops were at UGA, UA, & Clemson. That worried me about the hire, but maybe he is due to start landing some guys if he’s always involved late in recruiting processes. He was UGA’s lead recruiter for William Lee.

TSG improved a lot during his career at UAB. Love to see guys get better.

A good player. I'll miss him.

Do we know who the main recruiters were for the transfers?
Maybe being around AK has helped him be more personable if that's the case
