RE: WKU Game Thread: Survive & Advance!
My question is, how many scholarships are we allowed on the roster, with the returning seniors? I thought I remembered that those who are extra-year seniors will not count against the scholarship limit in football, so should we assume they will not count in basketball also? Otherwise we could have an 18-man roster.

NCAA grants all basketball players extra year of eligibility
The San Diego Union-Tribune - October 14, 2020

https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/spo...C%20junior

Quote:The NCAA’s Division I Council voted Wednesday to grant all winter sports athletes an extra year of eligibility at their current school, no matter how many games their teams play in the coronavirus-abbreviated season, no matter how many minutes they play in them, no matter whether they’re a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.

Quote:An NCAA spokesperson told the Union-Tribune on Wednesday night that “the additional eligibility is only at the current school” but clarified that Thursday morning.

“The eligibility is available at another school,” the spokesperson said in a subsequent email, “but the scholarship will count against team limits. If a student-athlete stays at their current school but has exhausted eligibility, their aid doesn’t count against team limits.”

In other words, if you have 13 basketball players on scholarship and three seniors stay for their extra year, you still get three additional scholarships for 2021-22. If a senior transfers to another school for that extra season, he or she counts against the allotted scholarship limit (which is 13 for men’s basketball).

In a nutshell those seniors that stay don't count against the 13 maximum scholarships. Any that might transfer in would.

Thank you, and that's what I thought, but in the roster planning above, some people were limiting it to the 13 we have had in the past.

So we could have Nicholson, Quan, Ertel and Scott-Grayson PLUS 13 more scholarship players on our roster next season.

It’s 13 plus whichever seniors stay.

Agree. There will be turnover.

If I'm AK I bring back Ertel, Jackson, Lovan, Jemison, Scott-Grayson, Toney, Gordon, and Ard assuming the seniors use their extra year. I would encourage Benjamin, Kirkland, Nicholson, Rotegaard, and Jeffries to move on.

With those openings I would bring in a true PG, two sharp shooting SGs , a PF and a backup C.

Looks like AK and I think alike 04-rock

You were spot on. I disagree on Nicholson though. Maybe he wanted a new team/school. I can’t imagine AK running him off.

I think he would prefer a more traditional PF (thicker body) be at the 4 spot.
