Point is a good coach will look at all aspects of his team, right? So when two perimeter guys from the opponent are scoring over 50% of their teams points against us, he'll want to consider how to limit their production. He doesn't just say, oh well let's shoot FTs better. - because we were poor at the line all year except a couple of games in the NIT.

I had no idea Penny said this. I bought into the hype that he has been actively seeking another guard. Thanks for clearing this up.

Michigan's best player, Wagner, just declared and is hiring an agent. I wonder if this would change Jones' mind.

And yet you highlighted where I said Penny "doesn't" just say that, SMH.

There you have it.
This is all part of the crusade to prove to us neophytes that Penny is a bad coach.
What more proof do you need? A Final Four team beat us twice, AND we haven't found a 6' 5" McDAA PG during the offseason.
Best to just ignore this poster as you will not convince him, and he comes up with the strangest things to support his agenda.

Funny, if your deductive reasoning wasn't so bizzare. I guarantee you Penny isn't just hoping we shoot FTs better. And BTW aren't we attempting to be a FF team?

Penny isn't hoping we shoot free throws better? Only on your planet. Anyone with even a bit of common sense knows that the only reason we lost both games is because Houston shot 79.1% from the free throw line, while we were at 53.2%.

Houston destroyed opponents by an average of 25 points per game, before and after our games. I guarantee you that Penny was thrilled with our play against Final Four Houston, aside from all the missed free throws.

Memphis
48.0% FG
38.5% 3PT
30.5 REB
.88/1 A/TO

Houston
40.1% FG
25.0% 3PT
37.7 REB
.76/1 A/TO

Just say the opposite of what you think. That is the best advice you will ever get.

Shake it. I interpreted your comment as “if” Penny were a good coach he wouldn’t just say…. Your previous posts on the subject led to that interpretation.

If Jones didn't see how valuable it is to be mentored by Coach Penny, then, we don't need him.

Coach Penny will adjust.

RE: Coastal Carolina Point Guard Devante Jones
Article from 2009:
https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/sport...as%2068.8.

Quote:Since the mid-1960s, college men’s players have made about 69 percent of free throws, the unguarded 15-foot, 1-point shot awarded after a foul. In 1965, the rate was 69 percent. This season, as teams scramble for bids to the N.C.A.A. tournament, it was 68.8. It has dropped as low as 67.1 but never topped 70.

We lost 2 games by 5 points to a "final 4" team.

We were in the NIT because we crapped the bed early in the season (Deandre Late Start)...It is clear not losing to WKU, VCU, Auburn and Tulsa at home cost us a tourney bid. Losing to Houston is allowed of a tourney team.
