Knowing nothing about Arizona, I watched the whole game and never would have guessed UConn was a huge favorite. I mean, I figured they were the favorite because it was #1 vs #3 and they are "UConn", but the way the game played out, Arizona dominated, looked like the better team to me start to finish. In total control the whole way.

IOW's, it didn't look like a case of an obviously inferior team somehow lucking their way past a much better one.

Maybe UConn was distracted by all the media nonsense about how the game with Baylor ended? That just went on and on. Or maybe they foolishly thought Baylor was their biggest obstacle to winning the title so it would be downhill from there and relaxed? Or maybe the Baylor game just took too much out of them physically and emotionally?

I do know I was kind of surprised when I flipped on my TV and saw South Carolina vs Stanford on. Seemed like a pretty small gap of time between the E8 and F4, just four days. Usually it's a week. Is that a new thing because of the virus schedule?

If the men are also having a short gap, it could affect the men's F4 as well.

"Afterward, UConn guard Christyn Williams said, "I think we came out with the wrong mentality. I thought we thought it was going to be easy, I guess, and we got flustered. "

UConn did get punched in the mouth quickly. IIRC, the short girl from Arizona started dropping in lefty-threes almost from the git. Arizona jumped all over them and never let up.

Knives are out against Emmert and the NCAA. Sally Jenkins (Washington Post sports columnist) provides perspective on the women’s tournament. She makes a strong case about the incompetence of the NCAA and how it hurts women’s athletics.

The rapid revenue growth from football and men’s basketball has resulted in a lot of wasteful spending. Now that the pandemic is forcing some financial discipline, each interest group is making its case.

Assume TX based student-athletes performed tecanthem, as in the men's F4.

Major congrats to Stanford and to a gritty Arizona team. I watched the entire game and enjoyed.

This growing revenue disparity, combined with court rulings requiring compensation in line with that revenue, convinces me that Football and Men's Basketball will have to break away from the NCAA in the next decade if not the next few years. The next candidate is actually E-Sports.

Man, Stanford had a few girls that wore really short shorts. John Stockton would approve Old school. Amazing- I coach girls basketball and so often the girls want the longer shorts. Most of the time even!

1st team to win the title men or women with both games wins by 1 point in the final 4.

In the last couple of weeks, I just discovered Paige Buckets, and holy crap, she's going to a megastar! I remember watching UConn play and wondering who she was, the way she moves on the court and plays. She's the complete package and will be a big deal for the WNBA in a few years. Watched the final today and I have to say it looked like we were headed towards a blowout, I have to give major props to Arizona for hanging tough and having the last shot to win the game. I have no idea what Stanford was thinking with that 24-second shot clock violation, they are lucky to walk away champions.

The Arizona coach should be fired for that final play call.... everyone on the planet knew who was getting the ball and that she would take the final shot.

Not one screen - not even an attempt to screen. Stanford Triple-teamed her. With 5 seconds, they had time for at least two picks.... at least

Disagree. The Arizona coach was magnificent in this tournament, and in the Final Four Arizona dominated a heavily favored UConn team and then in the final came within a whisker of beating a much taller and more talented Stanford team that had twice handled them easily during the season.

About the last play, IMO, the fault lies with the shooter. As you say, she was triple-teamed. She is an outstanding player, but when you are triple-teamed, you find an open teammate even if you are Michael Jordan, and instead she forced up a bad shot**. That's a player's split-second decision, I doubt the AZ coach told her to shoot no matter what.

** That almost went in, btw.

Irony is, the last time Stanford won the national title was 1992, the year Michigan's Fab Five changed basketball fashion likely forever by adopting ... the baggy long shorts that basically every team, college or NBA, wears today, LOL.

BTW, think about that - VanDerveer wins national titles 29 years apart! The last time she won, George H.W. Bush was President. That's just amazing.

I agree she did a hell of a job leading them to that point - Fire her is some hyperbole on how poorly that final play was designed.

The point is that the coach HAS to know that the ball is getting smothered regardless of who has it in their possession. 5.5 seconds seems like a lifetime watching it on TV, but when the ball is in your hands, 5 seconds is a blink; and the last thing she wants to do is have the clock expire while passing to someone.

You can't score if you don't shoot so to speak. That play has to be pick and roll or flat our double pick to give the player a chance at an uncontested/clean shot.....

She got the ball and everyone just stood there and watched her. That was clearly "the play" that was drawn up.

That's the first time I've heard someone say they should NOT "have given the ball to Marshawn Lynch."
