RE: NCAA Women's Tournament
top 4 seeds did not dominate the way they normally do.
Alamo bracket is 1 vs. 5 and 2 vs. 6 (Stanford-Missouri St. and Louisville-Oregon)
River walk was also 1 vs 5 and 2 vs 6, with 1 (UConn over Iowa) and 2 (Baylor over Michigan) winning
Hemisfair is also 1 vs. 5 and 2 vs 6 (South Carolina-Georgia Tech and Maryland-Texas)
Mercado was 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 with 4 (Indiana over NCSU) and 3 (Arizona over Texas A&M) surprisingly winning.

Beautiful. I actually like this.

However, if the situation were reversed ... a controversy.

RE: NCAA Women's Tournament
so looking 2019-
1 vs 4 2 vs 6 with 1 vs 2
1 vs 4 2 vs 11 with 1 vs 2
1 vs 4 2 vs 3 with 1 vs 2
1 vs 5 2 vs 6 with 1 vs 2

so the sweet 16 almost exactly the same(55 in '19 vs 52 in '21). elite 8 slightly less chalky.

Texas upset 2 seed Maryland.
South Carolina won as expected.
Stanford and Louisville also won.
So its 1 Stanford vs. 2 Louisville
1 UConn vs. 2 Baylor
3 Arizona vs. 4 Indiana
1 South Carolina vs. 6 Texas

Home state advantage for UT I assume helping them beat #3 UCLA and #2 Maryland (I had them beating UCLA but not Maryland). Then again, it didn't help Texas A&M vs. Arizona although Austin's a lot closer to San Antonio than College Station is. I'm hoping there aren't too many Baylor fans tonight vs. UConn.

Too bad Purdue couldn't take advantage on the men's side and Indiana was too pathetic to even make the tournament.

RE: NCAA Women's Tournament

The non-call at the end of the Baylor-UConn game is getting a lot of attention. But honestly, calls at the end of games like that usually have to be 100 percent obvious to be called. That was a foul, but a bit of a force and it's not surprising to me at least it wasn't called.

To me the bigger issue all along was the NCAA setting up that ridiculous regional to begin with and making some of the other regionals so much easier in comparison (especially the NC State region). Baylor should have been the 1 seed in the NC State and NC State a 2 seed somewhere, and then that Baylor-UConn game would have been in the Final Four where it belonged.

I watched a lot of this game last night, great game. The two best coaches and programs meeting in the regional final.

As for the controversy, I don't know why? I'm glad the game wasn't decided by more free throws.

I'm sorry, I don't buy that at all. I hate that officials think let the players decide the game. By letting a defensive player commit a foul, all they are doing is.... deciding the game.

I thought the calls were pretty even at the end. With about 30 seconds to go, UConn had the ball and a 3 point lead. One of their players drove the basket for a layup, there was contact and they missed, critical for Baylor, and no foul. Then at the other end with about 20 seconds left a Baylor player drove towards the hoop defended by two UConn players and just threw herself at the basket between them and the ref blew the whistle and bailed her out, two shots to cut the lead to one. So IMO, Baylor had already had two dicey calls go their way, I'm glad the refs finally said "eh, make a shot if you want to win".

I just watched and can easily see how the call could have gone either way. It was close, probably more so a foul than not.

NC State deserved their #1 seed with two wins over Louisville and one over South Carolina, and those wins were on the road and a neutral site. Mulkey doing nothing but staring down the officials during that 17 (or 19) point UConn run was more shocking to me than the lack of a foul call. Her theatrics are bad for the game, but the production truck knows it's great for gifs and memes.

Yes, the 19-0 run ended up being decisive, and as great a coach as Mulkey is, she handled it poorly. She never managed to stop the bleeding until great damage was done.
