RE: ***2022 Official Recruiting/Verbal Thread***
This recruiting class has some serious athletes in it. The Illinois state track meet finished today and NIU recruits were all over the place.
Eli Reed - WR - 11th in the 200m, 1st in the 400m, and anchored the 7th place 4x100 team.
Jalen Johnson - WR - Won 2 hurdling medals as a JR but unfortunately was injured in the 110 prelims this year.
Andre Cobb - CB - Lead off the 8th place 4x100 and the 11th place 4x200.
Toriano Tate - WR - 2nd in the Long Jump, part of 13th place 4x100, and helped qualify the 4x200 as the 5th seed for the finals.
Malik Armstrong - WR - Made it down state in the Long Jump and as part of the 4x400 but was not able to advance to the finals in either.
Roy Williams - DE - Placed 15th in the shot put and from what I understand had never even tried throwing until this season.

Got me curious so I checked the results for Williams- he had a great progression in both shot and discus so he grew a lot in technique.
Players' sprint performance gets a lot of attention because it's easy to understand- but don't sleep on throwers. The kind of power, body control, and explosiveness it takes to launch bombs translates in a similar way to wrestling translating.

agree.... Chandler Harnish threw the discus 175 feet in HS and was state placed. I really like lineman who perform well in the throws. Shows good feet and explosiveness.

Hammock and Narduzzi were both here in Dekalb 2000-2002. So hopefully Narduzzi pushed him in our direction and thinks Kaymar can help us.

Great size, something I felt like we needed a bit more size amongst the passing game. I wonder where he'll fit on the depth chart. Him and Joiner would be a good twin TE tandem

He was pretty highly rated coming out of HS but he had 1 catch for 4 yards in his time at Pitt.

And he started off as a D-end who was converted to TE. Maybe he is just gonna be a blocker? Idk, just gotta trust Hammy

Definitely trust Hammock. Has more than earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to talent evaluation. I just thought I would temper expectations a bit after seeing a fellow NIU fan on twitter listing him as the #2 TE behind Joiner. I think it will be pretty tough to jump Soraghan, Tewes, Gumbs, & Cassens while still learning the offense. If he has some potential, even as just a blocker, that can be brought out of him then he could be a real asset the following year when Soraghan & Joiner will be gone.

I really like Tewes. And not just because he spells tavis - Tewes. He’s a good hybrid blocker/receiver. Soraghan is just a space filler. Eager to see some younger guys break out. Gotta give the Pitt kid a chance.

The future at TE is going to be really interesting to watch. Once Joiner & Soraghan are gone, there will only be one guy who was a TE in HS (Vandenberge). Tewes was a LB, Gumbs & Stinson were WR, Cassens was a QB, Mimes was a DE, & Ozoh was a tackle. Also, all but 1 will have come to NIU as walk-ons. That's really a test for the coaching staff, and they clearly believe they can take guys with certain body types and athletic traits and coach them into productive TE's.

I'm thinking this could be part of the goalline solution. Replacing Rat and all his TDs will be hard to do. Having good, large blockers would help.
