Boston College has hired CoC's Earl Grant as it's next HC per John Rothstein.

RE: Earl Grant
ACC loves to take CAA coaches

I'm surprised they didn't go for Northeastern's coach though since he is more familiar with the Northeast

CoC have a replacement in mind?

Wow, surprising given really only 3 of his 8 years were good, and the last 2 not at all.

RE: Earl Grant
If I were BC, I would have gone after the St. Bony coach first. He is a BC alum and knows how to recruit at a difficult location in a tough conference.

Earl Grant is a great hire though and I wish him good luck!

RE: Earl Grant
Earl was not looking good for next year and split. His teams lately didn’t score that well imho so they were always beatable. Cougars will be fine in time and may get upgrade-who knows? You would think that a great beach location with some winning tradition would always be at the top. On second thought, never mind.

RE: Earl Grant
Big get at a complete black hole for Grant. He could do better, but his charm was wearing off so I completely understand grabbing that job. BC is a bad job. They always want younger coaches. Past BC coaches dont get hired there. Always seems to be bad blood leaving BC. Best of luck to Grant.

Between the loss of players and coaches, the CAA cant catch a break to attempt to get better. Its a tough world out there

I would turn down the BC job to stay at St. Bonaventure's, and wait on a better P6 to come along. 100 %, easy decision.

And alma mater doesn't always mean a whole lot. For instance, if I was a D-I assistant or HC at a low major when Kelly Mehrtens was the AD, I wouldn't have come back to coach UNCW until she was gone.

As we know all too well, one bad hire can destroy any momentum built by the previous coach!

Mehrtens wasn't the real problem. She was just a pawn. Rosemary got rid of one of the best Mid Major AD's in the country because she stood up to her. Kelly wasn't strong enough to do that.

There was interest on both sides.

They went a different way because, according to the article, having an African American Coach was very important to BC. Nothing wrong with that and Earl Grant will do a great job.

It is incredibly difficult to turn down P5 money, especially when its your alma matter.

If he was offered BC job and P5 money, he would have taken it, there was interest.

RE: Earl Grant
Bill Coen worked for Al Skinner at BC and they fired Skinner so maybe that is part of the reason that Coen has no interest in the BC head coaching job. It's a really hard job but Skinner won there and they screwed up by firing him IMO. Good luck to a guy going from COC to Boston College-virtually nothing in common other than they both have basketball teams.

Soooo what you’re saying is they likely DID talk to him first before ultimately deciding for whatever reason they saw in their best interest to go with Earl Grant.

Lol

See. Told you I was right.

You're not making any sense.

I said they should have gone with the St Bony cosch

Incorrect. You said they should have gone after the St. Bony coach first. I'm saying that was possible and even seemed to have happened based on your own information provided.
