Yep, you know it all. Again, why did a solid program decide to hire him? Do you think they reached out to JJ? At the end of the day we can argue about this method of evaluation or that method of evaluation, or what milestones should be reached, when the simplest fact tells you all you need to know about how the people who make it their business to choose the best coach available rate our coach... Nobody has been interested in hiring him.

So, maybe you are a basketball genius that knows more than all of the ADs out there, but the fact is that we have a coach that nobody wants, and that nobody wanted for the 20 years prior to the geniuses in our admin hiring him. If you are arguing that JJ is a good coach, you are arguing with all of the "experts".

Actually, its a fact that schools approached Jones in the past 20 years. Just because you don't read about it on here doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Are you suggesting that Jones would consider going to coach in the Southern Conference over CUSA? If so, you're crazy. If not, what does that have to do with anything? A Southern Conference school hired a coach from the Big South.

So if ADs coaching selection is the best metric, does that mean every other ADs coaching hire should be given weight but ODUs should not be given weight? Again, another comment that doesn't make any sense.

And Mike Jones will make somewhere in the region of 150-200k less than Jones.

"After a frustrating six-year stint at Texas in which he never quite lived up to lofty expectations, Shaka Smart is returning to his home state and starting over at Marquette."

I know we all hate VCU, but I personally would take Sahka Smart as coach at ODU in a heartbeat. He single-handedly built up that s-hole in Richmond, with crap facilities into a destination school for strong recruits. We could do worse.

Don’t normally highlight assistants getting jobs, but this is different since he’s a Monarch;

I would think this makes it more likely to happen since now he would have high major coaching experience.

This is probably the best case scenario for that happening. Doubtful he would have been hired as the head coach at a program of ODU's caliber with no college coaching experience.
