So not only do you leave one of those schools to inherit a fanbase with crazy expectations who will hold you to the standard of Bobby Knight, you also have to win in the toughest conference in the land. No thank you.

one could totally use that to their advantage. come play for historic program in fertile midlands of the nation's best conference. i think doug mcdirt of creighton could be what steve alford was not.... and then all the recruits stick

Shrewd hire.

Miller did get Romeo Langford and Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Not quite sure how he didn't make those work for him...

As of right now, the Indy Star thinks the "most likely candidates" are...

Nate Oats
Eric Musselman
Dana Altman

Why would ANY of those dudes leave for a tire fire in south central Indiana?

For real. All 3 have been successful so far at high-resource P5 schools. They would be crazy to take that job over the situations they are in now. This ain't Kentucky or North Carolina calling.

IU has resources and institutional support very comparable to those two.

That may be so, but Indiana isn't a name that moves the needle nationally with recruits anymore. I guess my point is that I don't think it's much easier to win at Indiana than it is at Oregon, Alabama, or Arkansas. And the expectations are much higher than any of those schools. I just don't see why Oats, Musselman, or Altman would leave the situations they are in to go to Indiana.

Interesting with Eric Mussleman mentioned. Would Bearcat former assistant coach under Huggins be talked into being his assistant at Indiana? That would possibly sway John's youngest son Foster to play at IU?

Man, that is the program of second chances. Fran Frascilla, Steve Alford, Ritchie McKay. Great fan base, though, and The Pit is one of the top college basketball venues.

I've always thought he was one of the 10 best coaches in college basketball, but what happened at Wichita sounds pretty bad.

Given the current transfer rules I don't know that he works anymore.

How much does Steve Smith make at Oak Hill and why do you never hear his name mentioned for any college job?

He is about 66 years old and has been at Oak Hill for over 30 years. My guess is he never wanted to leave. Surely with his achievements he had opportunities.

Ben Jacobson? JHC, this isn't 2014, look at his last few years...he's actually on the hot seat.

I would be all over Casey Alexander if we have an opening (which I HIGHLY doubt we will).

Outside the box gamble hire...Jon Scheyer, Duke’s Associate Head Coach.

Really young and no HC experience but people in the business have tabbed him as something special both in Xs and Os and in recruiting.

Could be a home run for whomever hires him and hangs onto him for a few years until Coach K retires.

RE: Coaching Carousel
I just about dropped my cookies when I read this article about replacing Archie Miller at IU.

https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/co...930968002/

Cincinnatian Pat Kelsey of Winthrop

"Kelsey has been immensely successful at Winthrop, one of the best low- to mid-major jobs in the country. He’s 182-94 over nine seasons, with six combined conference titles and two NCAA tournament appearances. The Eagles are favorites to win the Big South tournament again this season, having run away with the regular-season title. Despite spending the entirety of his coaching career thus far in South Carolina, Kelsey has strong Midwest ties. He grew up in Cincinnati and spent three years as an assistant under Chris Mack at Xavier before taking the Winthrop job. Kelsey has also been at Wake Forest as an assistant. The jump from the Big South to the Big Ten, however, is substantial."
Get real, IndyStar. Kelsey's photo is also scary.

RE: Coaching Carousel
Could be worse I guess, Iowa State just hired TJ Otzelberger, who rode a generational guy at a school like SD St (Mike Daun) to a few NCAA tournets and was one game under .500 in two seasons at UNLV. Yikers.
