MAC gets one of these shares for each GAME it plays. So far, the MAC is entitled to two shares, one for the UVa game and another for the next game.

Three straight tournaments now.

How many wins do the MAC have the last 6 years? (these mean extra game or games and shares. One share per game played).

OU - 2021,

N/A - 2020

UB - 2019

UB - 2018

--- - 2017

--- - 2016

So as I understand it, the MAC NEXT year gets 4 shares (assuming Ohio does not continue to win): One automatic, plus 3 shares for OU (2021), UB (2019), UB (2018).

Don't know how they will handle 2020. Ignore it and go back to 2015????

You get shares for games PLAYED, not games won. So: 2018 (3) 2019 (2), 2021 (so far 2). 2016 (1) 2017 (1) = 9 shares so far since 2016.

Yeah. My post was confusing. I should have used the terms played instead of relating games played to wins. Need to win a game to play another game.

Hell will freeze over before Ohio loses to a #15 seed in the tourney.

The lowest seed Ohio has ever lost to is a #5 seed (Kansas 1994).

How do the two games Buffalo played in 2018 and the two games Buffalo played in 2019 equal to 5 shares?

From https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men...ts-records

First Round: No. 13 Buffalo 89, No. 4 Arizona 68
Second Round: No. 5 Kentucky 95, No. 13 Buffalo 75

From https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men...ts-records

First Round: No. 6 Buffalo 91, No. 11 Arizona State 74
Second Round: No. 3 Texas Tech 78, No. 6 Buffalo 58

(Now, far be it from me to engage in argument whether Buffalo "oughter" have been a Sweet 16 chance in 2019 given Texas Tech being underseeded, just saying these are the scores as the NCAA records them.)

Don't know what the NCAA is doing with 2020 because there were not games.

They could simply treat it as 'missing data' that is to ignore it and go with 2015, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21 to computer shares for '22 and beyond.

If so I count one games played in 2015, 16, and 17; and two games played in 2018, 19 and 21 (and counting, go Ohio!!).

That's how I come up with 9 MAC shares for 2022.

RE: NCAA Tournament Thread
It's 0 shares for 2020, as I noted above, so this year will be fewer shares sharing a smaller total amount of money (due to lower ticket revenue).

And we are talkng about the sharing of the 2021 profits ... the sharing of the 2022 profits will be based on Tourney games played in 2022, 2021, 2020 (=0), 2019, 2018 & 2017. It's not a license fee, paid upfront, it's a profit share, paid after the profit happens.

Though it does mean that if tournament revenue rises back to normal in 2022, each share will be worth more than if there were shares from 2020 in the mix.

Enjoying all these upsets. Great seeing all these high seed, high major programs going down.

MY MISTAKE ... here is the right number of MAC NCAA games played since 2016: 2021 (2 so far), 2019 (2), 2018 (2), 2017 (1), 2016 (1). The last MAC Sweet 16 team was Ohio U. in 2012.

The mighty Big 10 has seen 7 of their 9 teams in the tourny get knocked out on the first weekend and that number may go up later today.

It is possible that if Ohio can be Creighton, that the MAC will have as many Sweet 16 teams as the B1G.

That would be crazy.

And MAC one team in the Sweet 16 and B1G zero, might be a sign that the end times are coming.

Maybe the 1st time in history?

Ohio only scores 2 points in the final 5:40 of the first half, pretty big hole at halftime, but not insurmountable.

Ah, well, but my late brother would still be proud of his Bobcats, and with good reason.

It still makes me happy that the MAC is listed in the last three "conference results" tables on Wikipedia, rather than being relegated to the footnote of first round losers that don't make the table. There are a number of conferences that will only have more than five units if they won a 15 seed play in game sometime in the last six years.

And I still wonder whether there is some way of investing the three "extra" NCAA units that helps build MAC basketball. For instance, schools that might have little interest in participating in a 2 vs 2 cross-over exhibitions hosted at the tournament and regular season champion (or runner up), with the next two tournament seeds as the other MAC teams ... might be more interested if there is an appealing participation fee on offer.

Of course, all the conference can do is to help set up conditions where schools can pick up wins that benefit their resume ... the schools then have to win those games. But nothing ventured, nothing gained.

RE: NCAA Tournament Thread
The new transfer rules are a double edge sword. If a mid major is falling apart it can pull the drain plug on existing talent. If a mid major is doing quite good though it can accelerate the talent pipeline.

It can create a Gonzaga effect where one program (or a few programs) accelerate their recruiting while the bottom programs never get off the mat. I think you're already seeing some of that with Buffalo, Kent, Akron and Toledo good every year. Ohio under Jeff Boals and its NCAAT win is set up to move back into the top tier of the MAC.

Good coaching hires are the best shot the other MAC programs have of changing the dynamic. Gone may be the days of coaches hanging around for 10 years in the second division of the conference.

Just noticed that Ball State is the "host" of the Bankers Life Fieldhouse games in Indianapolis, if the Cardinal logo is any indication.
