BTW its not "Indians", he meant Indiana. Sean Miller's little brother Archie parted ways with Indiana.

Considering the source, I like our chances. Plus, there was a time in the not so distant past when people on this board swore that Dan Majerle would be hired away from GCU. Jerry Springer determined that was a lie. NMSU's experience of having successful coaches hired away is not necessarily predictive of what GCU has ahead with Drew. At least some of that has to do with the fact that GCU literally and figuratively has more to offer Drew than a typical low-mid major program that consistently has their successful coaches plucked away. Yes, dollars, but also the full support of the University leadership & community. The climate and quality of life that a coach and his/her family can enjoy in the Phoenix metro area also factors into the equation.

When talking specifically about Coach Drew, he's already been chewed up and spit out once after making the jump from Valpo to Vandy. I think that experience alone will make him a little more selective if/when the next high major suitor comes knocking. That's why I'm all but certain there is no way it happens after Year 1 at GCU. But if we're being really, really honest here, the even more logical conclusion is that Indiana needs to hire a way bigger name than Bryce Drew to rally their donors and alumni back around the program. I don't know if just tweeting a coach's name actually makes them a candidate for a job or how that works, but I have to believe the Hoosiers have their sights set higher than the HC of a 15 seed who is just getting his feet back under himself in the profession.

GCU still can't complete with paying their coach $3 million dollars per year so trust me, when a big time program comes calling, he is gone in a minute. No coach in the WAC is safe.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think any other 4 year school would touch Gillespie with a 10 foot pole with his history. I feel confident no one else wants him. As the NBC Sports article says, hiring him was shameful. No one else is making that mistake...

What's so shameful about hiring Gillespie? It's not like he's out there slapping waitresses asses or anything... 05-stirthepot

Lol. But he has been, check the interwebs... But when there are multiple legal issues and convictions in play, that just doesn't grab the headlines. But as he has stated after each stint in rehab, those days are long in the past. Not sure how many dealers there are in a town the size of Stephenville anyway. But thank god he hasn't killed anybody behind the wheel yet. I doubt Tarleton can afford to drive him around like Kentucky.

So far so good, but he always starts out strong. But it also usually ends quickly, and in embarrassing fashion for all involved. No doubt that this experiment will end any differently.
