I feel like GCU just got hosed....that’s a tough matchup. I really like Midtgaard and feel like he was a big missing link to let Lever play his Euro-style game. That said, Garza is going to be a tough matchup for him, and I kinda shutter to think of Lever guarding him.

Where I think GCU can hang is at the guard spots. If they shoot the way they can, they have a punchers chance.

GO AGGIES!!!!

I would agree that GCU got a bad seeding. I think that Iowa has the much better 7 footer. I have watched both GCU and ACU this year and I think either team could win head to head on any given night. I was equally surprised that ACU got seeded as a 13. My guess however would be that despite the WAC as a higher ranked conference, the number of conference games played had some influence.

ACU is a#14 seed. We were hoping for. #13 but it didn’t happen. The NCAA seeding rank had ACU at #55 and GCU at 59.

My bad, an ESPN bracket that I saw had ACU as a 13 but it was probably posted before the official brackets were announced.

Congrats to ACU. Way to represent our neck o' the woods. Back at the start of the season, BCG said ACU was the best team in the SLC and one of the top programs in the country. I had a hard time believing him then, but I do now. And admittedly, ACU's success this year does help alleviate the pain of our first "L" to ACU Basketball in a mighty long time! We got a good dose of what's really going on these days in Abilene. Go get 'em, Wildcats! This Texan fan will be rooting for ya.

I understood it was supposed to be a forfeit and game over but I just saw a headline that Kansas is leaving certain players home due to covid. Didn’t read the article but as usual I’m assuming the blue bloods will get special treatment when it comes to covid. If GCU players were to get covid they’ll probably be banned from postseason play for 10 years.

I know the selection committee has four schools listed as alternates and they are on the bubble until like Tuesday when all of the teams in the tournament have to do something regarding they're ability to field a team. Fielding a team means they have at least five players available. All schools are on some kind of quarantine and surveillance until later in the week I believe.

I thought I heard that an at-large team could be replaced due to Covid by the one of the alternates up until Tuesday. However, if a one-bid conference champion like GCU if were to test positive Tuesday prior to the tournament, the WAC commish could send an alternate team as their "back up" Champions. I would assume that would be Utah Valley since they were the Co-champion; if that were to occur.

Tough get for GCU.

From a basketball perspective, we aren’t too pumped. Texas has gotten hot in the past few games, stopping Oklahoma State’s run in the Big 12 Tournament. I would have preferred Kansas, which won’t be at full strength due to COVID.

From a PR perspective, we are very pumped. ACU will get a lot more publicity in the state over the next few days than we would have ever gotten if we had been matched against virtually any other team.

This is also what I saw. The First Four Out are in line to replace a team if said team come from a multi-bid conference. If a team from a one bid conference (WAC/GCU) can't play, another team from the WAC would replace them. I would assume the WAC alternate wold be UVU as well.

I agree with this. Iowa is one of the weaker 2 seeds. Luke Garza will be the National POTY, but GCU has some size to throw at him.

RE: Congrats to GCU
The good think for GCU is other than the Iowa starters, most of the Hawkeye roster are freshmen. GCU will need to use their speed at the perimeter positions to disrupt Iowa's size advantage coming off the bench. The bigger problem might be that four of the Hawkeye starters shoot the three above 39%. I do think this GCU team is probably the most balanced WAC team (size wise, inside/outside) to enter the NCAA Tournament since NMSU's 2010 team. So, GCU does have a puncher chance; if Midtgaard can negate Garza.

BTW its not "Indians", he meant Indiana. Sean Miller's little brother Archie parted ways with Indiana.

Best of luck, Lopes! As for Hairy, looks like he'll spend his off-season searching for the WAC PoY who disappeared in Vegas last Friday.

Considering the source, I like our chances. Plus, there was a time in the not so distant past when people on this board swore that Dan Majerle would be hired away from GCU. Jerry Springer determined that was a lie. NMSU's experience of having successful coaches hired away is not necessarily predictive of what GCU has ahead with Drew. At least some of that has to do with the fact that GCU literally and figuratively has more to offer Drew than a typical low-mid major program that consistently has their successful coaches plucked away. Yes, dollars, but also the full support of the University leadership & community. The climate and quality of life that a coach and his/her family can enjoy in the Phoenix metro area also factors into the equation.

When talking specifically about Coach Drew, he's already been chewed up and spit out once after making the jump from Valpo to Vandy. I think that experience alone will make him a little more selective if/when the next high major suitor comes knocking. That's why I'm all but certain there is no way it happens after Year 1 at GCU. But if we're being really, really honest here, the even more logical conclusion is that Indiana needs to hire a way bigger name than Bryce Drew to rally their donors and alumni back around the program. I don't know if just tweeting a coach's name actually makes them a candidate for a job or how that works, but I have to believe the Hoosiers have their sights set higher than the HC of a 15 seed who is just getting his feet back under himself in the profession.

GCU still can't complete with paying their coach $3 million dollars per year so trust me, when a big time program comes calling, he is gone in a minute. No coach in the WAC is safe.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think any other 4 year school would touch Gillespie with a 10 foot pole with his history. I feel confident no one else wants him. As the NBC Sports article says, hiring him was shameful. No one else is making that mistake...

What's so shameful about hiring Gillespie? It's not like he's out there slapping waitresses asses or anything... 05-stirthepot
