On the idea of exploring new ideas, why couldn't a couple or a few of the mid-major conferences do this and schedule a mid-major madness tournament to allow the top 4 teams in each conference to play each other. for some quality wins across conferences. Would allow teams like ODU, UAB and WKU (the top 4 or 5 of CUSA) to pit themselves against the best of some of the other conferences. We wouldn't be caught in the catch 22 of scheduling Richmond 3 years out and hoping they are having a good year. I am sure there are details, but if we are looking for quality wins and the P5 is gobbling up all the bids, we need to give reasons for being considered for an at large.

If we keep trying maybe we can come up with a tournament ODU can play in! NCAA incease from 64 to 68 teams and we can't get in. No NIT bid. Maybe we can have a Tidewater tournament for top two college teams and top two high school teams to compete against each other. Maybe we can beat out CNU for a spot? This is pitiful! Every year same old crap.

I don't believe i ever said that. Let me go back and read

You said our rating was hurt because of our schedule. I also inferred that to meaning our rating was inaccurate. What did you mean by that? Doesn’t KenPoms magic sauce accurately rank teams regardless of who they play? Doesn’t matter if we play La Tech and lose or Charlotte and win. What matters is the margin of victory/defeat.

Tougher schedule generally means higher rankings.

WKY is a 3 seed in the NIT even after a bazillion teams opted out. Where did anyone start thinking they were even remotely on the radar for an at large bid?

I am just asking what happened to the idea of pod play for quality wins. If anyone thought we were making the NIT or the NCAA without winning the regular season or conference tournament, you were dreaming.

When you play tons of games against top 10 opponets, its gonna be tough to have a great record.

They have wins vs.

3 -Illinois
13- Purdue
31- Maryland
41- Syracuse
46- Indiana (3x)

2 "bad losses: in number 56 Michigan State and 95 Nebraska.

And for people that talked about how bad Maryland was, they easily et an at large bid.

Hard to get the Net up, hard to schedule P6 teams. Then you play in a large conference with 14 teams, lot of teams looking for a bid.

I think the committee did alright but not great.

Wichita State being in is comical. I have zero clue how they got in. Michigan State was borderline but I don't think they should be in over Louisville, Duke, or Seton Hall. The Shockers couldn't even beat cincy without Cincy's best player (and focal point of the team).

Seeding wise, Lyola, Wisky, UVA, UConn are wayyyyy tooo low.

Kansas, Texas, WVU as 3s is dumb though if Shaka puts in a C+coaching performance, they could make the final 4.

Hmmm. North Texas is paired with Purdue in the first round, just like ODU was in 2019.

Luckily for them Carsen Edwards isn't walking out that door. I think they might win.

Yeah this Purdue team is talented, but they play a few freshman. I feel like the team we played two years ago was pretty well seasoned and should have made the final four if not for some crazy heroics from UVA. I think NT has a good shot.

I would love for your idea of a mid major madness thing, used to be called espn bracket busters, where teams from mid major conferences left an open range of dates to be filled in later with a similar level of opponent from another conference. It would be great to bring it back but I'm guessing logistics are hard, especially if more than 2 conferences are involved. And how to settle home vs away? I personally think you should just do H/H same year with the same team from the other conference to call it even, but again the logistics is probably hard on some teams. I like the idea though and it would be nice if the G5 conferences could figure something out to help them boost their teams.

Pod play along with the old ESPN Bracket Buster, allows you to build or get killed. The BB helped us a couple years. Had good exposure, something we seriously lack. I think the CUSA is very close to being a two bid conference, but looking at the bids per conference it is tough for mids. AAC and A10 each just get one at-large and only 5 total given out.

Love you bro but I don't see CUSA close to two bids at all. Heck the Committee most likely had never seen a CUSA team play all year and had to scramble to find film. A league who has its tournament on Facebook? Are you kidding me. Long ways off from two bids IMO.

Do you really think the committee is watching film of mid majors :)))))))))))))) Whether its shown on ESPN or facebook or youtube doesn't matter.

WKY was the best chance at a 2nd bid but they did not perform well enough in conference to even be in consideration. (thanks to Charlotte and ODU)

Maybe some of us gals too. But there are those of us who remember the positive vibe about ODU athletics as opposed to the current death march vibe.

That is absolutely the biggest part to me.

Even when i wasnt a huge fan of Blaine’s, and even when we played some ugly rockfight basketball, there was still plenty to get excited about and some great talent to watch.

The days of Loughton, Lee, finney, frank the tank, baze, hunter etc. are gone and we have a bunch of guys who never would have seen the court under blaine starting and playing huge minutes. Yeah we rack up win totals against a garbage conference and a garbage ooc schedule.

Its all meaningless. This program has zero excitement, zero direction and a total lack of talent from the top on down and guess what, it still isnt getting better anytime soon either.

Another first round exit under JJ in the cusa tourney, no quality ooc wins and one squeaker win against wku. A giant who cares is JJ’s legacy at odu. Period

Why yes I do! Here’s something I found from the NCAA site
.
One factor not listed because there is no way to measure it is the "Eye Test." That term gets thrown around a lot because it is part of the subjective nature of the selection process. The committee members watch a lot of games. They will form some opinions based on that.
