It was an ugly, foul-filled game (21 each) and UAB prevailed 23-27 vs 18-25 for NT. Javion Hamlet led the Mean Green with 19 pts (7-11 FG, 5-6 FT); Thomas bell added 18 pts (5-12 FG, 1-3 3s, 7-11 FT), James Reese 11 (3-6 FG, 3-4 3s, 2-2 FT) and Zachary Simmons 10 (3-4 FG, 4-6 FT).

F Abou Ousmane (6-10 250 Fr). 7.4 min.; .481 FG; .462 FT; 2.4 RB; 2.3 pts
F Terrence Lewis (6-7 210 Jr). .480 FG (2-6 3s); .667 FT; 2.1 RB; 2.8 pts
Senior-laden team that controls tempo, is strong on defense (#1 CUSA pts/g-D) and executes an efficient offense (#1 CUSA FG%). Great balance in scoring among the starters, led by 1st team all-CUSA Tavion Hamlet. Note that four starters are left-handed (Bell, Simmons, Hamlet and McBride). Rubin Jones is a game-time decision to play vs MTSU.

RE: North Texas game thread
North Texas 76 – MTSU 56.
NT finished the game on a 27-7 run to win easily. MTSU had kept within reach by hitting 3s (7-12 first half), but NT adjusted their defense and controlled the tempo to advance. Javion Hamlet led the Mean Green with 21 pts (9-16 FG, 1-3 3s, 2-5 FT) and 11 assists. Thomas Bell added 19 pts (7-9 FG, 4-4 3s, 1-1 FT) and James Reese had 15 (6-14 FG, 3-5 3s) and 3 steals. Guard Rubin James DNP and six players had 20+ mins (four 30+, three 35+).

You don't think the WKU series, which had a double bye on the line if we win one, were impact games?

RE: North Texas game thread
We open as 4.5-point dogs. But all this team needs is strong performances from all of our regulars, and heroics from one or two others. Hopefully that's not asking for too much.
(All I'll need is a a 5-hour energy infusion at 9:30 p.m.)

Hoping for the best but not expecting a W. I think they're a matchup issue for us. But, the keys to our victory I think is bench play.

Basically a home game for them so I think it will be tough. They are a very good team. Strong defense but also shoot very well.
They really only have 1 significnt big guy in Simmons (although Ousmane plays a handful of minutes) so they really shouldn't be able to win, right?
We have to guard the 3 point line, which we haven't really done all season but now is a good time to start.

RE: North Texas game thread
I posted this in the tournament thread:
Just watched NT turn a close game into a blowout over the last 10 minutes. I feel like NT has regressed some since the last time I saw them play against Marshall. Not as smooth on offense, considering the lack of defense from Empty Sue. Their defense is solid though. That could be an issue for us if we're not hitting shots. They foul quite a bit though. I'm seeing a low scoring, grinding game decided down the stretch.

My e-mail alert from ODUsports.com says that tonight's game is televised on Cox channel 111 (Verizon channel 468). Good news.

I dunno. The channel guide still shows the LT game at 9:30. But I set it to record just in case. Be ready with a backup plan.

RE: North Texas game thread
They are a strong defensive team that also shoots the ball pretty well. With two 6'-10" post players that play regularly they also have a bit of a size advantage down low. They go 7 - 8 deep and pulled away from MTSU in the second half to win by a lot so fatigue shouldn't be that much of a problem for them in today's game.
Will have to stay in front of them to keep them from driving inside, especially Hamlet. He's also good at hitting foul shots so that's another reason to keep him from driving where he is more apt to get fouled.
ODU will need a similar defensive effort to what they had against WKU, avoid foul trouble, keep their turnovers low, and make a decent percentage of their shots to advance to play again tomorrow. It would help a lot if Green and Oliver are having one of their good shooting games today. We're pretty tough to beat when we have more than just one or two scoring threats on the floor at the same time, and especially so when we are shooting threes better than we usually do.

If the feed on 111 is anything like the last time I tried to watch us there it will be a gross SD mess. Be ready to stream it.

Only 6 players got more than 5 minutes in last nights game, on the conference board on their fans posted that Freshman guard Rubin Jones who was the first off the bench was on crutches after the UAB game and did not play last night. 4 of their starters played over 30 minutes. Their bench hasn't done much for them the last few games.
I'm feeling good about tonight's game. We've been playing well, I think Curry is going to take it personally. He and Hamlett were rivals at their Juco colleges in FL and Hamlett took our lunch last year. Play tough defense, stay out of foul trouble and get the win.

If you are suggesting they will be fatigued from playing 30 minutes, I don't think it will be a factor. Every team has been playing back to back games all season with little fatigue. It could be a factor if they get to the finals but I don't think so for tonight. I'm more concerned that they have a game under their belt shooting at those rims in that cavern and we don't. And that they will have many more fans there than we will have.

It could definitely be a factor in the second half if the same players are getting the same minutes. We play pretty physically, most of the games I've watched you could tell a difference late in the Sat game.

I discount their "home field advantage" I watched the MTSU game last night, and it was crickets from their fanbase... thanks Rona!
I think we win this game.
We are playing our best ball of the season and are feeling the mojo.

I think ever team was given a handful of tickets, mainly family and a few donors. If anything we've got an advantage because we've played our home games in a mostly empty building all year.
