The "extra" Covid year
All spring and winter athletes are eligible to play an extra year due to Covid. This means that this year's seniors can play another season- but also applies to freshman, sophomores, and juniors who will all be able to play an "extra" year. So this will effect rosters and recruiting for the next 4 years. I don't see this being a major factor for P5 schools, whose better players don't even stay 4 years. Even our better players usually head to Europe after their senior seasons, so I doubt many of them will take advantage of this. For example, I believe Ruot and Ben will look to sign pro contracts. Admir's options may be more limited, so maybe he would consider coming back. I can see it having a bigger effect on our women's programs as I believe fewer girls dream of a pro career and may be more likely to want to take advantage of getting a free year to work on a Master's degree. If Joe Foley were to keep this year's freshman, for 5 seasons, they might be scary good by the time they are 5th year seniors. Krystan Vornes already said she is coming back next year ("I'm not ending my career this way") although that may have been said in the heat of the moment after her injury. I guess Teal Battle could return as well.

The only question I have is if players can transfer and play that "extra" season at another school. I have not found an answer to this, but I'm thinking "no" as this would make a confusing situation that much more "crazy".
