RE: Bowden on SBC
With ULM's budget, you're either going to attempt to find a diamond in the rough, or somebody like Bowden who aren't a.candidate for bigger jobs. I pointed out Bowden's success at Akron awhile back. They were stupid for firing him IMO. Winning begets greed and illusions. Happens to almost every team. What ULM did may rewrite the manual on how to turn around a program. There's a stigma that old folks don't have the stamina or wherewithal to compete at high levels. Personally, I'd love to see ULM succeed. If it was me, I'd be focused on cutting edge FCS coaches or guys like Bowden and fill my positions in a similar way that Saban does. There's a revolution brewing - its worth paying attention to.

We ain't the SEC, we ain't the ACC. We are not "miniature" or "lite" anything. We are the Sun Belt Conference.

Yeah, I don't really like that phrasing either. SBC can, and have taken down SEC teams. A miniature pinscher has never taken down a doberman.

And ULM has taken down more then most.

We stopped them, just couldn’t move the ball against them. That was an ugly game....for both teams.

I feel confident that Bowden will at least have ULM in the lead of a game at some point this season. Might even be after the clock strikes 0:00.

GS fans are starving for signs of improvement. Small guys playing above expectations. It's possible with what we currently have in place. Even the most pessimistic cough Stinging Eagle are hopeful.

As someone who went to 4/5 home games and watched most of the other games on TV, I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.

RE: Bowden on SBC
I loved the hire.

ULM has to overcome years of indifference to athletics at the top. Decades of nothing done to facilities beyond changing lightbulbs and occasional painting.

The fans who kept showing up deserve accolades but you can’t be critical of the people in the community who were pounded into not caring and not respecting the program.

Having a serious name with some recognizable assistants is a huge step. It means raising some eyebrows and generating curiosity.

Last year was a fiasco but the Warhawks were a play away from .500 in 2019 and two plays from a 7-5 season that suggests a team that lost faith in the staff so the rebuild may not be quite as hard as some believe

RE: Bowden on SBC
ArkStFan, that is what Bowden and Rich Rod said. It isn’t as if we have been horrible, like an Akron every year. We were a few plays away in 2019 and although admittedly have a terrible winning season record since going FBS, we have finished normally mid pack in SBC in football. They think we are in a very fertile recruiting ground and this will be a much easier turnaround than Akron. The two best things so far is the excitement in the area is palpable, donations and fundraising are going way up, and Bowden and RR have made overwhelmingly clear to the administration that if we don’t almost immediately get cost of attendance and start improving facilities, no one can turn it around. I have been extremely impressed with our new President so far and I think he is listening. He has instructed the ULM Foundation, that does fundraising for the entire University, to start fundraising specifically for athletics, has allowed every dime that can legally go from the University budget to athletics to be used, and is planning to revisit the student athletic fee vote again and promote it correctly this time. We haven’t had this much national pub since 2012 and all the RV spots are already sold for next year. Lastly, there is serious talk of a reality show, showing the rebuild, potentially called Ball Rescue, that would help recruiting, sponsorships, apparel contract, and a money infusion. That’s not a done deal, but I hear there have been serious discussions. It’s a new era on the bayou. Let’s hope we get it right this time. A successful ULM is good for the SBC. We are perfectly located geographically and are a SBC football charter member with long histories with many of the teams. We appreciate all of your well wishes. Time to do our part.

Lol quite subtle. Yes, I'm very hopeful. I'm not a football analyst, but it looks to me that CCL has been behind the scenes rebuilding and getting the right pieces together. Just like a puzzle, it looks devoid of progress until all the pieces you organized come into play and you begin to see the picture. Of course, I've been disappointed several times before but hope springs eternal right. I'm sure it is hard to do right now for ULM fans, but look for signs of internal improvement like OL, coaching moves, specific playmaking positions. You can't see the plumbing system in a house, but you can definitely tell when it isn't working and the moment it starts to get fixed. Before too long the wolves that blew your house down may not be able to in the future, or at least not as easily.

RE: Bowden on SBC
I'm wonder if there is enough available money out there to make much of an impact. Louisiana is the 24th most populous state with a median income of just under $50K and per capita income of less than $28K.
From what I can tell oil & natural gas refineries, agriculture and fishing seem to be the top industries. LSU obviously eats up a majority of corporate $'s and a lot donations from casual fans with no affiliation to any school. After looking at all those factors I'm surprised the other 4 FBS programs do as well as they do. I've been to LA Tech, Louisiana, LSU, Nichols, Northwestern State, Tulane (in a world of its own) & ULM.

I’ve said for years ULM can field a good team just recruiting 50 miles north and south of I-20 from the Metroplex to Birmingham.

I would like to see all our schools be successful but I cant imagine any real big shift at Monroe. there is not a lot of cash to be had. no big local "name" corporate sponsors to write the big checks for new facilities and stuff. the state is much like arkansas where pretty much anybody with money to dole out on sports backs the flagship school..for the near future I hope they can get to where they are no longer an "easy out" and become competitive..the support will start to trend upward.

Did ULM ever repave the parking lot??? If not, I’d start there. That doesn’t take a financial donation, it takes a construction company to donate materials and a little time. ULM can get creative with what they need and how to get it. They may not get a single gift of $10mil, but they can get 10 gifts of $1mil.
