That and no exposure on TV. That couldn’t have helped.

As I said out of the 4 number one seeds Illinois is the most beatable and they have only 2 star players( Dosunmu and Cockburn). Games start Saturday that is alot of time to prepare.

yeah that's what i took away from it. we're not a compelling conference to begin with. then we didn't play any games.

all that aside...i'm just excited we're in and they didn't forget about us. we were going to play some power 5 school one way or another. they're all the same to me. part of me wanted the play in game since i could go in knowing we have a good shot at a win.

Coincidentally most brackets had us against Houston, so we were going to avoid a power conference team. Regardless, your point is valid, we were going up against a top notch team

BMF, since you're here....are you excited about what happened at Drexel this week?
I mean, you spent the last 15 or so years bashing the school and our athletic department in every way possible. We don't hear from you very often, but when we do, it's usually when something bad happens. Even others who have shown to be negative showed incredible levels of excitement, because ultimately, we're all on the same team and want our Drexel Dragons to win.

This week, Drexel's two highest profile teams both won stunning championships, and I haven't heard a word from you.

If Drexel beats Illinois (somehow), that will be a game changer for our School

Yep, and going back to a debate I had with dan10 a few weeks ago, it's moments like this why schools invest in Division I athletics and why it's so important to be Division I. The NCAA Tournament bracket is such a high profile thing, that the national exposure that being in this tournament gets you is invaluable.

The first ever college basketball game that I ever watched is a game that's still talked about today. It was in 1989 and my brother's freshman year at Princeton. Princeton was a 16 seed against Georgetown, and when the ESPN announcers went on the air, they said, "it's not about who will win but by how much". Princeton led Georgetown most of the game and ended up losing by 1 point. It was that game that got me interested in College Basketball when I learned that a school like Princeton can not only participate in the NCAA Tournament, but compete against the big boys.

RE: NCAA Bracketology
bmf does illustrate why nobody should feel like they have to apologize for being critical of things. i ate crow about opting out. others having some to eat over wanting to keep bruiser around. i'll never forget the "we could end up worse" argument. he dug a deep hole that spiker is still digging us out of.

today i wore a drexel hoodie around hershey. i haven't felt that pride in a long time. we haven't been given anything to brag about.

let's see how spiker does in the next few years. i'm betting he turns the corner assuming he can keep this roster together. the caa needs a flagship program. it's time we become that.

"Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes"

It's great to see Drexel in the NCAA Tournament. Maybe my standards are too high for Drexel basketball? Drexel should be dominating a watered-down CAA. One NCAA Tournament appearance in 25 years is disgraceful.

Spiker's Drexel Resume
2016-2017 9-23
2017-2018 13-20
2018-2019 13-19
2019-2020 14-19
2020-2021 12-7

Drexel basketball should have higher standards than Rider or Monmouth.

Trying to debate you further would be a waste of my time and everyone else's time. I just wanted to see where you stood. Have a great night.

In short, yes, your standards are too high. The only schools that dominate a mid-major conference are the ones who are pouring all of their energy into men's basketball. Drexel is not and will never be that school. There will be rises and falls.

My expectation for the program is just like most mid-major programs. Contend for the league title when the program is experiencing a rise, and remain among the middle when the program is experiencing a fall. To me, that's a reasonable standard.

Interesting Bleacher Report article on who "got screwed" in the bracket seeding. DU is listed at the end.

As we should have. Its almost indefensible to have dropped us beyond "making a point to the CAA". The difference between drawing Houston and Illinois is enormous. Not saying we win either, but its a huge difference. Even CBS's ranking of all 68 teams had us at #59, so an entire seed line better than we got

RE: NCAA Bracketology
I've had ESPNU radio on all day at work. Earlier this morning, they were going through the bracket and when they got to the 16 seeds, they didn't even bother to mention Drexel by name. They basically said that these 16 seeds have absolutely zero chance so let's move on to the 15 seeds.

Just like Drexel in the NIT in 2012, they have an opportunity to prove that they got screwed. If they go out and lose by 20-40 points, then the selection committee can say that they're right and Drexel is a 16 seed. If they come out and play a game for the ages and compete with IL, then that would be their way of making a statement that maybe they were given an unfair seeding.

RE: NCAA Bracketology
Thats why judging teams acceptance is dumb. Once a game is played anything that happens prior is meaningless. Arguing that a team that goes out and loses didnt deserve in, or if they win it validates that choice, is plain wrong. Too many factors happen, including just a bad matchup, that has no bearing on what the outcome should have been. Fact is our team can go be competitive and lose or they can get blown out or they can win, and the fact is they still should not have been a 16 seed. MSU can go beat UCLA and keep winning, that doesnt mean they deserved to be dancing. They dont. We dont deserve to be a 16. This is why subjectivity and closed door decision-making will always bring controversy to college hoops. It wouldnt be that hard to openly lay out the seedings 1-68 and list the justifications for that seed. NET was supposed to help clear everything with a consistent set of rules. That was avoided this go around. Almost nobody on CBS, ESPN etc even mentioned NET rankings this year. Bizarre stuff. Transparency would go a long way. I think the NCAA likes the controversy
