Responding to Buho00-- Hallmark not only coached here for 8 years (?) under Wayne-- serving as recruiting coordinator, pitching coach and assistant head coach-- but he was also an all-SWC catcher for us back in 1994-'95. He's a Rice guy all the way. Since leaving Rice, he served one year as pitching coach at Mizzou, then two years as Head Coach at Incarnate World (turning around their program), before taking over UTSA the past two seasons.

Did not know all that. He makes a lot of sense. Is he your odds on favorite if you had to guess right now?

He'd be my pick, but I'm not JK, and who knows who JK is consulting on this. I do think there would have to be some fence mending between JK and Hallmark for him to return, but I suspect it's doable. BTW, Patrick's wife is also a Rice grad, a former student-athlete, and a former Rice swimming coach. Can't imagine anyone with stronger Rice connections, save for perhaps Jose Cruz Jr.

Northwestern hired another AD today (again not JK). They hired an NCAA executive who used to be the AD at Tulsa.

I just hope JK can swallow his ego and make a good hire for the baseball team. There is an obvious choice -- Hallmark -- who was the recommendation of Coach Graham 3 years ago.

Given 'how we got here', this to me is even more important than football.

I doubt he ends up at any school that's a significant step up from Rice.

The AD just had what I believe on these boards were perceived as excellent hires in both women's basketball (the current best sport at Rice) and baseball (the former best sport at Rice). I believe the AD was at least instrumental in landing our best recruit at QB here in a long time.

Is his continued tenure here seriously still a topic?

What is the current state of "the former best sport at Rice"?

How many players are on the roster of "the current best sport at Rice"?

Also I very much doubt JK had anything to do with the recruitment of Luke McCaffery. Rather, it was all Bloomgren, who has a deep relationship with the McCaffery family. I'd also question whether WBB, and not women's volleyball, is Rice's best sport currently.

WBB is near the bottom of the pecking order in terms of our sports right now after Langley’s departure and the ensuing exodus. Volleyball, Soccer, MBB, XC/T&F, and swimming are all poised for more success next year than WBB. Jury out on FB and baseball.

Pitiful. But sadly, to be expected. The Leebron era Rice administration is not interested in competitive athletic programs.

Same here.

I really can't imagine a situation where I could have become more disenchanted with an organization faster than I have with Rice.
