Rice sends Marshall home. Didn't see that coming. Marshall shot poorly until the final minute.

Defense travels, it’s tough for a rhythm team to go into an empty hangar and play that game.

Better chance of UTSA knocking off WKU than MT beating NT IMO.

I thought UAB is good? And who knows, UTSA is crazy. They have a game under their belt in that arena, could be a slow start for the Stans and they might have a hard time playing from behind.

The NCAA Tournament has specific Covid-19 rules in place as well in case a team has to drop out after the teams are selected next Sunday.
This will be great as we face Butler in the first round of the NCAA tourney (which we WILL), and Butler declares a covid forfeit... BANG. We finally advance past Butler!!!
In the NCAAT there will be no forfeit. "Butler" would be replaced with the next available team from the first 4 out.

RE: C-USA Tournament Thread
Projecting a little (I’ve got a tee time tomorrow AM). If MTSU pulls the upset refer to our previous game thread for player info.
Thursday 10:00 in Frisco: N Texas (14-9, 10-5 CUSA). Stadium stream
Results to date: OOC Miss Valley St (116-62); Arkansas (54-69); Miss State (63-69); W Va (58-62); Arkansas-PB (81-56); Houston Baptist (88-55); LSU-Alexandria (115-78); Loyola-Chicago (49-57).
CUSA: UTSA (77-70, 69-77); UTEP (63-33, 74-65); Rice (79-74, 79-53); La Tech (63-68, 57-55); S Miss (65-49, 68-56); Marshall (77-65, 72-73); UAB (51-65, 61-65).
Last game (UAB). NT never led, but held UAB without a FG the final 3:42 and closed within two point before losing 61-65. It was an ugly, foul-filled game (21 each) and UAB prevailed 23-27 vs 18-25 for NT. Javion Hamlet led the Mean Green with 19 pts (7-11 FG, 5-6 FT); Thomas bell added 18 pts (5-12 FG, 1-3 3s, 7-11 FT), James Reese 11 (3-6 FG, 3-4 3s, 2-2 FT) and Zachary Simmons 10 (3-4 FG, 4-6 FT).
CUSA stats: 68.2 pts (vs 62.0); .477 FG (.356 3s); .743 FT; +3.0 RB; A/TO= 0.95
Starters (UAB)
F Thomas Bell (6-6 190 Sr). 27.6 min.; .574 FG (17-39 3s); .690 FT; 5.8 RB; 1.1 blocks; 10.9 pts
F Zachary Simmons (6-10 240 Sr). 27.2 min.; .692 FG; .742 FT; 5.8 RB; 10.6 pts
G Javion Hamlet (6-4 195 Sr). 30.4 min.; .445 FG (17-45 3s); .885 FT; 3.0 RB; 3 assists; 15.5 pts
G James Reese (6-4 165 Sr). 31.2 min.; .466 FG (29-84 3s); .667 FT; 4.9 RB; 1.6 steals; 11.6 pts
G Mardrez McBride (6-2 180 Jr). 21.4 min.; .393 FG (16-55 3s); .538 FT; 1.7 RB; 5.6 pts
Bench
G Rubin Jones (6-5 185 Fr). 20.7 min.; .338 FG (14-36 3s); .800 FT; 1.4 RB; 5.1 pts
G JJ Murray (6-1 180 Sr). 22.1 min.; .394 FG (5-15 3s); .842 FT; 2.6 RB; 1.3 steals; 3.4 pts
F Abou Ousmane (6-10 250 Fr). 7.4 min.; .481 FG; .462 FT; 2.4 RB; 2.3 pts
F Terrence Lewis (6-7 210 Jr). .480 FG (2-6 3s); .667 FT; 2.1 RB; 2.8 pts
Senior-laden team that controls tempo, is strong on defense (#1 CUSA pts/g-D) and executes an efficient offense (#1 CUSA FG%). Great balance in scoring among the starters, led by 1st team all-CUSA Tavion Hamlet. Note that four starters are left-handed (Bell, Simmons, Hamlet and McBride). Rubin Jones is a game-time decision to play vs MTSU.

I think this deserves its own thread.
Just watched NT turn a close game into a blowout over the last 10 minutes. I feel like NT has regressed some since the last time I saw them play against Marshall. Not as smooth on offense, considering the lack of defense from Empty Sue. Their defense is solid though. That could be an issue for us if we're not hitting shots. They foul quite a bit though. I'm seeing a low scoring, grinding game decided down the stretch.

LOL .... Comparing ODU's needs to Gonzaga's now?
You conveniently left out that they also have a lot of size, superior shooting, and terrific athleticism among their starters - you know, things ODU wishes they had a lot more of. They recruit and get top rated talent, and have perhaps the top player in the country - Kispert. Oh, and they almost always defeat their opponents by double digits.
ODU's need to play their depth has resulted in Trice winning the conference's 6th man award. ODU's depth also has had to go as deep this season as Pilavious in several games. Reese may face limited minutes or be unavailable due to his ankle injury in the tournament. Curry got injured a couple games ago and had to sit out most of the game. LA Tech is about to go into the tournament using their 2nd string Point Guard due to an injury. Every team is susceptible to injuries, foul trouble, or illness. Just last season ODU permanently lost 3 starters during the middle of the season. ODU had to face an important series against Marshall this season without 2 starters. Had they not managed to win one of those 2 games they would not have gotten the 2nd place bye in this week's tournament. Their depth allowed them to accomplish that. Anyone trying to push that depth is not a valued commodity in sports is out of touch with reality.
It wasn't that long ago when we legitimately had aspirations of being "Gonzaga of the East". This was before Gonzaga had #1 rankings like they do today, and before the AAC existed and before the F4 runs of our former CAA friends. But they were ranked and made deep runs in the tournament, all from a lousy one bid league. Id say VCU is now at the level we expected ODU to be at by now (when we were dreaming 10-15 years ago), and also pretty close to being the east coast version of where Gonzaga was at that time. Those bastards stole our thunder. Maybe we will win the CUSA tournament and go on a run to the sweet 16 this year. Its got to happen sometime.
VCU is definitely in a much better place basketball wise than ODU is. They have had sustained success following their unexpected Final Four run that is admirable, in spite of numerous coaching changes. ODU could still one day get there as well, but it would take time and for some league and administrative changes to take place (in my opinion). The push for ODU to become a football school on the FBS level has diminished the basketball success (again in my opinion). I feel like they would be in the A10 at least were it not for that. I applaud teams like Gonzaga, Butler, and VCU for making a strong name for themselves in the national picture basketball wise as teams from Mid-Major Conferences.
But but Giles said jeff jones is a better coach than mike rhoades so now i dont know what to believe lol

UNT is ahead of ODU in metrics, which is what ESPN uses to automatically calculate these.

UNT is very high in the metrics. They have a very good defense. They only have 1 loss outside of the top 100 this year (on the road to UTSA).
The lossess at home to UAB weren't great but they are a good team. We should be a dog.
