BANG. We finally advance past Butler!!!
In the NCAAT there will be no forfeit. "Butler" would be replaced with the next available team from the first 4 out.
If it makes you feel better, Butler is the 10-seed in an 11-team Big East so there's virtually no chance they make the NCAAs anyway, and even if they won four straight games to get the autobid, that'd only get them to 12-12, which means they'd probably get a 13, maybe 12 seed depending on the other autobids? Upshot is there's no chance they play ODU in the first round.
Nice ... feeling better already
Butler and Xavier square off today in MSG on FS1. Xavier is 6.5 point favorites.

That fierce WCC certainly was quite the challenge for them

Interesting... they aren't even positionless. Come to think of it, all of the top teams this year have great post players. That is pretty unbelievable in the era where small ball is the only way to go.
1. Zags: Timme
2. Baylor: Vital
3. Illinois: Cockburn
4. Michigan: Dickinson
5. Iowa: Garza
Its like a list of the best big men in the country. Crazy!

Gonzaga essentially plays a 1 in 4 out offense with 4 interchangable parts. All of the perimter players can handle the ball and shoot wiell for the most part.
Vital is not a post guy, he moves all around the court (and crazy he can play undersized 5 at 6 foot 5). They are a lot like the Nova teams with 4 guards that all shoot lights out.
Garza and Cockburn are stars. Cockburn and Dickinson are back to the basket players but Garza is an all around scorer.
They are all good teams that are very well rounded.

LOL .... Comparing ODU's needs to Gonzaga's now?
You conveniently left out that they also have a lot of size, superior shooting, and terrific athleticism among their starters - you know, things ODU wishes they had a lot more of. They recruit and get top rated talent, and have perhaps the top player in the country - Kispert. Oh, and they almost always defeat their opponents by double digits.
ODU's need to play their depth has resulted in Trice winning the conference's 6th man award. ODU's depth also has had to go as deep this season as Pilavious in several games. Reese may face limited minutes or be unavailable due to his ankle injury in the tournament. Curry got injured a couple games ago and had to sit out most of the game. LA Tech is about to go into the tournament using their 2nd string Point Guard due to an injury. Every team is susceptible to injuries, foul trouble, or illness. Just last season ODU permanently lost 3 starters during the middle of the season. ODU had to face an important series against Marshall this season without 2 starters. Had they not managed to win one of those 2 games they would not have gotten the 2nd place bye in this week's tournament. Their depth allowed them to accomplish that. Anyone trying to push that depth is not a valued commodity in sports is out of touch with reality.

It wasn't that long ago when we legitimately had aspirations of being "Gonzaga of the East". This was before Gonzaga had #1 rankings like they do today, and before the AAC existed and before the F4 runs of our former CAA friends. But they were ranked and made deep runs in the tournament, all from a lousy one bid league. Id say VCU is now at the level we expected ODU to be at by now (when we were dreaming 10-15 years ago), and also pretty close to being the east coast version of where Gonzaga was at that time. Those bastards stole our thunder. Maybe we will win the CUSA tournament and go on a run to the sweet 16 this year. Its got to happen sometime.

VCU is definitely in a much better place basketball wise than ODU is. They have had sustained success following their unexpected Final Four run that is admirable, in spite of numerous coaching changes. ODU could still one day get there as well, but it would take time and for some league and administrative changes to take place (in my opinion). The push for ODU to become a football school on the FBS level has diminished the basketball success (again in my opinion). I feel like they would be in the A10 at least were it not for that. I applaud teams like Gonzaga, Butler, and VCU for making a strong name for themselves in the national picture basketball wise as teams from Mid-Major Conferences.

My friend, you mention they almost always win by double digits. Just saw today, they have the most wins in a row by double digits of any team in the last 60 years! I would love to see them go all the way. I just feel someone is gonna clip them along the way. Why? It just always seems to happen.

Indiana was the last team to win it all undefeated in 1976 when the field was 32 teams. Since then there have been 5 teams to enter the tournament undefeated and not finish the job.

ODU actually promoted us on FB as the "defending champs" at the CUSA tournament. I mean, I guess technically its accurate, but c'mon. Thats worse the WKUs imaginary regular season championship for the east division.

Lets get to be the real champions and then celebrate again.

While technically accurate, I agree it's cringe-worthy. I still think WKU printing t-shirts and making hats and cutting down nets for a fake title is much worse though.

The ODU Sports web site is showing WTVZ as broadcasting tomorrow night’s ODU game on 33.2 Stadium.
https://odusports.com/news/2021/3/10/men...adium.aspx
But the TV schedule is still showing the LT game. I will set it to record and see what happen. I’ll be ready with both OTA and streaming just in case.

RE: C-USA Tournament Thread
Hey everyone...
I've been living in Seattle since 1997 and been blown away by the whole rise of the Gonzaga program. (Gonzaga is in Spokane, WA)
Where I work, I have several Gonzaga graduates that keep me tied in to their big games, concerns about early exits from the tourney, rivalry games against UW, etc.
Did you know that their first NCAA was in 1995? I didnt. And you look at our NCAA appearance before 1995 and thru now compared to theirs?! One would imagine that they've always been good going back to the John Stockton days. Geez! What a difference/divergence in programs... Gonzaga really set out to become the "Duke of the West Coast" and they are getting there.
That being said, I think we'd plow them at football!!! Bring it, Zags!
