Why do they consider him a monster hire? Hopefully Xavier Silas will come on board as an assistant. If he wants the job so bad, he better put in that work!

I really don't know anything about him other than he played at DePaul. With that said, congratulations Coach Burno.

Now let's get some recruiting going!!!

Hell, bring in Silas and Battle for AC positions.

And, while we're at it, see if Lux wants to join them.

I think that would satisfy everyone...;-)

Tbh, I've actually seen his name listed a few times as assistant coaches who were ready to be head coaches and next in line stuff so, just that tells me it was a big hire for NIU to get him as he seemed to have some national recognition.

I don't recall but a while back, I listed a few names of guys who had some ties to the area and were top assistants and, I think, I listed his name. I know the attention was all on Jon Scheyer when that initial conversation was happening (and whether or not he would take over at DePaul), so I don't recall if I actually listed Burno but I do recall seeing his name in the research (ie, Google search) I did.

HA! Apparently I was the first to bring up Burno!!!! (I honestly had no idea...)

Another local guy is Jon Scheyer who played HS ball at Glenbrook North.

I want that 300k Frazier paid for that coach search!!!!!!

We must not be hurting as much financially as they portray if you can throw $300k to a firm just to manage hiring a new coach.

Sounds like he's a good recruiter with local ties. Seems like as good of an option as any.

Best of luck to him

RE: It is Burno
Some background ... Burno has been asst HC for Bobby Hurley at ASU since 2016 after being hired away from Florida in 2015. ASU went to the NCAA tournament in 2018 and 2019. At UF, Burno was an assistant when the Gators went to the Final Four in 2014.

According to the Sun-Times:

"Known for his recruiting prowess, Burno helped Arizona State to a top 10 recruiting class in the country in 2020, which included Burno being the lead recruiter on a pair of five-star recruits ... ."

"Burno also spearheaded top 20 national classes in 2018 and 2019 that included local star Alonzo Verge, who was the 2017 Sun-Times Player of the Year while at Thornton."

Played at DePaul, coached at Marmion, recruited local high school talent ... I like this hire ... IF somebody doesn't mess it up. Not official yet.

Reputation as a great recruiter which is half the battle. Assistant coach to Bobby Hurley(Duke ties). There’s good potential there. I agree that he should hire Silas if he can.

NIU and STF should of used Big Red as a search agent. We could of kept the $300,000 in house.

I have a hard time believing NIU is not hurting financially. This seems to me more like something largely funded by key donors and not the general athletic budget.

Glancing at the Subject, I thought it said "It is Bruno" and immediately thought this was somehow related to the Sasha Barron Cohen character lol.

Good recruiter? That’s enough for me. Local ties, this is a nice hire.

Well respected guy, I would say this is as good as we could of asked for.

The more I learn about Burno, the more I like the hire. He’s got a ton of Chicago ties. Was also on Billy Donovan’s staff at Florida when they went to the Final 4.

The people on this board need to pay particular attention to the following Burno quote. "People think you can get things done quickly.
That never happens." This was regarding the hoped turnaround of the ASU program. Good luck coach Burno.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
