Kansas launches investigation into Les Miles

Translation: We realize now how stupid a hire Miles was so we're going to dredge up something in hopes of getting out of the buyout.

Miles was about as good a hire as Kansas could realistically make.

Yeah, it was widely regarded as a great hire by Kansas.

Placed on administrative leave on Friday. There will be a buyout on his contract and Kansas will move on. The AD Chuck Long may be in trouble too for the poor background check he did before hiring him. Will have to see what transpires as this goes forward. Kansas owes Long at least $3 million dollars if they fire him now.
Don't know what the buyout will be for Miles at this time. 07-coffee3

I don't know the AD's first name but it is not Chuck. I think it may be Jeff Long.

Chuck Long is the former Iowa QB and tormer coach who also spent a long time as Big Ten Network TV analyst. Not sure what he is doing today.

Willie Fritz would have more wins by now than Miles would. I don't have any doubt of that. And there's probably multiple other coaches who were considered hot commodities at G5s at the time Miles was hired who would have more wins as well.

Your right its Jeff Long. Still doesn't change the fact that he is potentially in hot water along with Miles. Thank you for pointing that out though. 07-coffee3

RE: Kansas launches investigation into Les Miles
The thread title is a bit misleading. Kansas isn't "launching an investigation". How could they, realistically? All they said is that they will review the information received from LSU's investigation and then decide what to do in response.

It’s interesting that coaches can get caught on tape paying recruits cash money and still be coaching at the same school, yet if a guy make a pass at a pretty woman he’s canned as soon as it comes out. Just the times we live in I guess.

RE: Kansas launches investigation into Les Miles
The issue that KU might use to reduce the buyout payment to Three-Win Les is that he should have disclosed to KU anything that would embarrass KU if it became publicly known. Les will argue it's KU's fault they didn't find this before hiring him; KU will argue that Les is responsible because he conspired with LSU to keep this from becoming known to the public at the time of the incidents.

But that's just money. Miles is gone, and Long is probably gone as well. As this article points out, KU would save money by firing Long now, even if they have to pay his full buyout for termination.

Quote:The biggest industry question about the future at Kansas is whether athletic director Jeff Long will be the one to hire Miles’ replacement. Long’s hiring of Miles will go down as one of the worst administrative decisions in college athletics in recent history.
Quote:Kansas’ brass now has to make a long-term decision on Long in short order. If they fire Long, they’d owe him the more than $3 million remaining on his contract. (It’s hard to imagine Miles getting paid from Kansas considering he did not disclose the LSU issues.)

If Kansas keeps Long, they’d have to then keep him for a very long time, as his contract states that he’ll be extended the same amount of years that Kansas receives in probation from the looming NCAA basketball cases.

That should be at least three years, so Kansas officials may just cut bait now instead of getting locked in for a few more million.

Can you imagine had Michigan hired Miles when he was a hot candidate after Lloyd Carr... only to follow that up with Brady Joke and Jim Harbaugh?

I guess there's no way to fire all the experts who praised Long for making a homerun hire with Les Miles.

Agree. Seems like this may be more of power move than concern about women.

I do not disagree, EE. Kansas is a tough place for fb to recruit, re-build, and sustain improved consistency whenever reached. It takes fortitude, persistence, patience, and skill.

There are not a lot of 'Mack Browns' out there.
He returned to UNC and quickly showed favorable results.
