Just the opposite idiot. Intact families are released much faster than unaccompanied minors (as they have nowhere to go if ICE can't find their illegal parents in the USA). They are coming now because Biden lets them in. Trump made them remain in Mexico, and only people who can qualify for asylum, single digits, were allowed in.

RE: Biden's* Border Bungling (13,000 unaccompanied minors)
Quote:MSNBC anchor Katy Tur said Monday on her show that the lack of press access inside U.S. border facilities holding migrants is not the transparency promised by President Joe Biden.

Tur asked, “Why is the media still not allowed into these facilities?”

NBC News correspondent Gabe Gutierrez said, “Well, Katy, that’s the question that keeps being asked of the Biden administration. Right now, what they continue to cite is COVID protocols, but as you know, Katy, even the Trump administration, did allow reporters inside some of these facilities. I remember going in many of them back in 2018 and 2019, especially over in Clint, Texas near El Paso, where there was a lot of controversy of overcrowding in one of those border patrol stations.”

He added, “Certainly a lot of questions about why reporters haven’t gotten more access to those facilities and why the Biden administration didn’t have a better plan to house these huge numbers of unaccompanied children that they probably saw coming, but they just don’t have a plan for it.”

Tur said, “The Biden administration kept talking about transparency, and we’re not getting any transparency here with what is happening at the border. That we have to get those issues from a congressman who won’t say where he got those images is very frustrating for not just journalists, but for the American public who want to know what’s going on inside those facilities.”

Quote:CNN anchor Jake Tapper opened his show “The Lead” on Monday by commenting on President Joe Biden’s administration not granting news media access inside the U.S. border facilities holding migrants.

Tapper said, “A humanitarian crisis in this country growing more severe by the minute as thousands of migrant children without parents or guardians are overwhelming facilities at the U.S.-Mexico border. As a new administration struggles to explain how it is going to better handle this influx humanely while also discouraging future migrants.”

He continued, “These photos released today by Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar’s office show conditions inside one of those border control facilities in Donna, Texas over the weekend showing what appears to be mostly teenagers crammed together, wrapped in mylar blankets. Not all that different from heartbreaking images we saw during the Trump years or for that matter during a similar crisis when Barack Obama was president in 2014.”

He added, “Today we saw this rare look inside these facilities since the Biden administration has not granted a news media access to the facilities citing COVID restrictions despite the president’s promise in his inaugural address to always level with you. Blocking access to the news media is not leveling with the American people, Mr. President.”

Not that illegals ever showed up for court dates in past years.....now,

Amid surge, border agents in Rio Grande Valley are releasing migrants without court dates

WASHINGTON — Border agents in the Rio Grande Valley, the center of the migrant surge, were authorized Saturday to begin releasing adult migrants and families from custody before they have been given dates to appear in court, according to an internal document obtained by NBC News.

The move is "intended to mitigate operational challenges, including risks to national security, during significant surges of illegal migration as currently exist in the Rio Grande Valley" by reducing the time immigrants spend in custody, according to the document.

Some immigrants said they were being released without knowing how they would be contacted..............................

Well, that won't help matters. Only opens up a new tactic to get in country. Flood the border and be released into said country due to "overcrowding" without any intent on every showing up for a nonexistent court date. The "national security" crap is meaningless.

RE: Biden's* Border Bungling (13,000 unaccompanied minors)
Quote:More unaccompanied minors have been captured or have presented themselves at the United States-Mexico border in the first few weeks of March than in all of February, according to a report from CNN based on unofficial Customs and Border Protection numbers.

The number of migrant children detained at the United States border is already on pace to break an all-time record, as The Daily Wire noted last week, but the problem is only gaining steam. According to preliminary U.S. Border Patrol numbers provided to CNN, nearly 11,000 child migrants have crossed the border in March — thousands more than in February, and the month is barely half over.

“The US Border Patrol has detained more than 11,000 unaccompanied migrant children between February 28 to March 20, according to preliminary government data,” the outlet noted, “already eclipsing the number of minors apprehended in the full month of February.”

“In recent weeks, the number of encounters of children crossing the US-Mexico border alone has continued to climb, overwhelming the government’s resources that had already been under strain because of the coronavirus pandemic,” CNN reported Tuesday. “In all of February, Border Patrol apprehended nearly 9,300 unaccompanied children at the US southern border, up from around 5,600 in January.”

The United States is also reportedly on pace to smash detention records. The previous high was in May 2019, when “11,400 unaccompanied children were arrested on the US-Mexico border.” According to recent reports from CBS News and others, the U.S. is holding approximately 15,500 unaccompanied child migrants in border detention facilities run by CBP as well as facilities run by Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“The U.S. government on Saturday was housing approximately 15,500 unaccompanied migrant minors, including 5,000 teenagers and children stranded in Border Patrol facilities not designed for long-term custody,” per CBS. “More than 5,000 unaccompanied minors were being held in a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tent holding facility in south Texas and other stations along the border with Mexico. According to the government records, unaccompanied children are spending an average of 136 hours in CBP custody, well beyond the 72-hour limit outlined in U.S. law.”

According to reports of a briefing given to President Joe Biden earlier this month, the Biden administration expects upwards of 20,000 child migrants in United States custody, meaning it is possible the crisis has yet to reach its peak.

CNN is quick to note that unaccompanied minors make up a small minority of border encounters and that adult apprehensions are up significantly as well. “Between February 28 and March 20, Border Patrol apprehended more than 60,000 single adults and more than 32,000 families,” according to unofficial Border Patrol data.

The Biden administration is struggling to find places to house the thousands of child migrants as they try to unite them with family members already in the United States. Border facilities are overwhelmed and, according to photos released on Monday, conditions are rapidly deteriorating for child residents, who appear packed shoulder to shoulder in small rooms.

Quote:Border Patrol agents continue to apprehend increasing volumes of large migrant groups illegally crossing the border in the Rio Grande Valley Sector. Despite White House assurances that the southwester border is “closed,” apprehensions in March have already exceeded the entire month of February.

Over the weekend, Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended three more “large groups” of migrants, CBP officials said in a written statement. In three incidents, the agents apprehended nearly 400 migrants — mostly family units and unaccompanied minors.

“Groups of over 100 apprehensions becoming the new normal as RGV agents encounter three this weekend totaling more than 369 illegal aliens,” Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Brian Hastings tweeted. “This is the 25th 100+ sized group this year.”

By late last week, Hastings tweeted that his agents had already apprehended more than 34,000. With 11 days to go in the month at that time, the number of apprehensions in March exceeded February’s apprehensions for the entire month by more than 25 percent.

RGV agents remained busy on Thursday, apprehending over 2000 illegal aliens. Thursday’s encounters pushed RGV’s weekly total over 10K apprehensions! March monthly totals are now over 34K for #RGV Sector alone.#crossingyourborders pic.twitter.com/nga2wgBI6A

McAllen Station agents working the border near Havana, Texas, on Saturday encountered a group of 145 migrants, officials stated. Just a few hours later, agents working near La Joya, apprehended a second large group of 108. Border Patrol defines a “large group” as a single crossing of more than 100 migrants.

On Sunday morning, agents patrolling the border near Hidalgo, Texas, encountered the third large group consisting of 116.

In total, the agents apprehended 369 migrants. Officials report nearly 300 of the group were family units and unaccompanied minors. The remainder were said to be single adults.

“Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation,” Rio Grande Valley Sector officials said in a written statement.

Quote:Del Rio, Texas, Mayor Bruno Lozano (D) pleaded with President Joe Biden to address the overwhelming flow of migrants into his border city. He characterized the surge as an unprecedented breach of national security.

“It’s a slap in the face,” Mayor Lozano told the New York Post on Sunday. “You have a breach on national security levels that have never before been seen in modern history and you’re not even batting an eye about it, you’re not even calling it a ‘crisis,‘ you’re calling it a quote-unquote challenge.”

In February, Lozano asked President Biden to not send migrants to his city of 35,000 because they did not have the resources to deal with them, Breitbart News reported.

“I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas,” the mayor said. “We do not have the resources available to house and accommodate these migrants within our community.”

Lozano told the New York Post his pleadings “fell on deaf ears.”

“I’m not trying to demonize the humanitarian aspect by any means but my responsibility is to the city of Del Rio and the residents of Del Rio, Texas, my responsibilities are to the American people that got me elected,” the Texas border mayor stated. “Nobody wants to actually tackle the issue, you’re condoning unlawful behavior, period. There’s a lawful way to enter the United States, there’s a lawful way to seek asylum and it just undermines the entire immigration process.”

The mayor told the reporter that about 150 migrants per day are dropped off at a local humanitarian organization. From there, the migrants are processed and transported to the bus station or airport. But some, he explained, are not ready to leave and need a place to stay.

“That’s when the logistical nightmare begins, where are they going to sleep for the night? That’s the number I worry about each day,” Lozano stated. He said the city has been using a basketball court as a makeshift shelter.

The exacerbated mayor concluded, “You have this policy where unlawful entry is being condoned, criminal activity is being condoned, these migrants are using the cartels to traverse Mexico and that’s a fact and organized criminal activity is rising because of that.”

“I’m calling them out, I’m so frustrated as a border town mayor about all of this,” Lozano said.

Quote:MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough ripped President Joe Biden and his administration’s messaging to immigrants that has resulted in a crisis at the United States’ border with Mexico.

According to Scarborough, as long as the Biden administration is “luring” children to the United States with a “permissive immigration policy,” there will be a “crisis at the border.”

“Those children made the journey in the first place because the United States of America now is sending a message to those children — if you journey across the desert, you make a long and dangerous trip, we’re going to let you in. And we’re going to let you in if you’re unaccompanied,” Scarborough said Tuesday. “And sometimes, and we’re going to find this out throughout the show, you can come in, and we’re not going to even give you a court date. So … the Biden administration right now is the one that’s luring these children to the border with the promise of being able to get in.”

“[A]s long as you have a permissive immigration policy, you’re going to have a crisis at the border,” he added. “And yes, we have United States Senators from Connecticut, Democrats, liberals, that are talking about tears in their eyes, when they look at the situation that these children are in. That’s a crisis at the border. And as long as you have a permissive policy — first of all, again, it’s dangerous for the children because more children are going to keep coming until you tell them, ‘No, we’re not going to let you in.”

Scarborough called on the Biden administration to change their messaging to immigrants to “we’re not going to let unaccompanied minors in the United States.”

“When they say that and when that message is clearly sent, then unaccompanied minors will stop crowding the border in the numbers that they’re crowding,” he advised.

RE: Biden's* Border Bungling (13,000 unaccompanied minors)
Quote:Gila Bend, Arizona, Mayor Chris Riggs has been sounding the alarm, warning President Joe Biden that the border town cannot survive the administration's immigration policies. Now, after getting no response from Biden's border officials, the mayor has declared a state of emergency for his town.

What's going on?

Just last week, Riggs revealed that his "very economically depressed" town cannot handle the massive influx of illegal immigrants it is experiencing and said that the Biden White House's plan to deluge Gila Bend with even more illegals will be devastating.

The mayor told Fox News on March 15 that Border Patrol was preparing to drop people off in Gila Bend and force the town to fend for itself.

"We can barely afford to take care of the people that we have here in our community now, and as of the second [of March], the Border Patrol advised us that they're going to drop people off here and [say], 'They're your problem,'" Riggs said. "We just do not have the ability to care for these people. Quite frankly, it's going to cost us tens of thousands of dollars a year to be able just to provide them with a bottle of water and a sandwich when they get dropped off."

He has also noted that the problem is not just financial, telling Fox Business that violent crime in his community has shot up lately, while some 20 illegals have shown up in his town on foot daily.

Riggs added that he and the community have been left "completely in the dark" about the people being sent there — including their numbers, criminal backgrounds, and COVID infection rates — and he was begging the administration to change tack.

What is the mayor doing?
Now the mayor has taken what he believes is his only logical next step since the administration has refused to respond to his concerns: He has declared a state of emergency in Gila Bend.

Border Patrol still intends to drop off busloads of illegals in the town, Riggs said, but the community has no way to help those people — no charities, NGOs, no local government programs.

Yet the Biden administration is persisting.

"Border Patrol let us know that they were going to be dropping migrants that had been detained for 72 hours in our town, which we really didn't understand because we have nothing here," the mayor told Fox Business Tuesday night.

"We have no charity organizations that can help, no non-governmental organizations that a lot of the larger cities and towns do have to assist these people," he added, Fox Business said.

Not only that, the town does not have the facilities to house the migrants, and it does not have a hospital. Add to that the fact that Gila Bend, which is already facing an uptick in crime, does not have its own police force but, as HotAir pointed out, instead relies on a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office substation, and the area is seeing a recipe for disaster

According to Riggs, the cost to conduct COVID tests on two busloads of people per week would cost at least $600,000 per year — which translates to more than a third of the town's yearly budget.

The mayor said migrants are being bussed to Gila Bend without access to food or shelter and that his town of 2,000 people has received zero federal, state, or local funding to cover the costs of food, housing, and COVID testing for migrants, Fox Business reported.

Quote:Even as illegal immigrants continue to stream across the southern border, President Joe Biden still has not nominated anyone to lead U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The CBP is the law enforcement agency directed to inspect people and goods coming across the border into the U.S. by land, air, or water. It also leads the effort to arrest illegal border crossers, a mission the Biden administration has relaxed after it became a contentious priority under former President Donald Trump.

Nearly 100,000 people have been caught attempting to cross the U.S. southern border with Mexico in February, up from 78,000 in January, according to the Washington Examiner.

Troy Miller is CBP’s current acting commissioner after previously leading the agency’s New York field office.

Miller tweeted just days after Biden's inauguration:

I'm honored to assume the role of Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner of @CBP. I am continually inspired by the men and women of CBP, who work tirelessly every day to keep this country and its people safe.

CBP has had only acting-level leadership since former head Kevin McAleenan was promoted to acting secretary for the Department of Homeland Security in April 2019.

McAleenan was nominated for the CBP gig in May 2017 but wasn’t confirmed until March 2018, according to the Examiner, after Democrats took issues with the Trump administration's hard line on immigration.

The Biden White House did not immediately respond to the Examiner's request for comment.

RE: Biden's* Border Bungling (13,000 unaccompanied minors)
Quote:A Texas Democrat who has rebuked the Biden administration's open border policies says he get more information on the immigration crisis from Mexico than the buttoned-up U.S. government.

"I'll get a read out first from the Mexicans, because it's hard to get a read out from our own government, and I sit on the Homeland Appropriations [Subcommittee]," Rep. Henry Cuellar told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"I get more information from across the river than I get from my own government, which is just amazing."

Cuellar used a football analogy of President Joe Biden administration's failures on the border crisis.

"It we play defense on the 1-yard line, we're going to keep losing; we're seeing that right now," Cuellar told host Joe Scarborough. "If we play defense on their 20-yard line and work with Mexico, Guatemala, Central America, work with them to keep people from coming over here, we are going to stem this stem of people coming over here."

Cuellar did say the clumsy Biden border messaging is improved, but it still needs work.

"The message has been much better," he said. "The first one was, 'don't come now; come later.' It's like saying, 'don't break the law now, break it later.'

"I'm glad that message is gone."

Instead, Cuellar added, "they need to be direct and say, 'don't come.'"

"Then they have to show images of people being returned," he said, setting up a deterrent to illegal immigration as opposed to an invitation.

"Now, I am not talking about the kids. Once the kids are in our custody, we take care of the kids like they're our own kids. But, again, we have to stem the tide of people coming in. We have to do it over there.

"We've done it before."

The Biden administration's acting "surprised" at the migrant surge is disingenuous, saying "we've seen this before" and adding a cursory visit from the administration is no replacement for the experience on the ground in South Texas, Cuellar added.

"And with all due respect for people to come to the border and just visit for a couple of hours, that's no substitute for a lifetime of experience," he said. "We've got mayors, we've got sheriffs, we've got NGOs [non-governmental organizations], we've seen this.

"In fact, I think it was within a week of inauguration, I had called my White House contact and I said, 'I want you all to look at what's happening on the ground; I'm talking to the men and women on the ground, I'm talking to NGOs, and numbers are increasing. You have to pay attention to this.'

"And I've tried several times and here we are."

Cuellar acknowledged the crisis has a burgeoning "political problem" for the Biden administration and open-border Democrats.

"I'm a Democrat, I supported Biden, but this will become a political problem," Cuellar concluded. "As we can see, our Republican colleagues are already turning this into a political weapon."

Quote:A senior leader within Customs and Border Protection provided Breitbart Texas with developments in the number of migrants escaping apprehension. The source, speaking on a condition of anonymity, expressed frustration at the misplacement of Border Patrol resources in the southwest. According to the source, nearly 900 migrants per day eluded apprehension nationwide over the last two weeks.

in March, got-away totals for fiscal year 2021 surpassed 118,000 thousand for Fiscal Year 2021. A source now reports the total exceeds 130,000.

The metric is usually not released by DHS. It is achieved by counting illegal immigrants who ultimately escape Border Patrol apprehension after being observed by aircraft platforms and camera systems. In addition, Border Patrol agents use traditional sign-cutting techniques to identify footprints where cameras do not capture the crossing. “That’s where it gets tricky,” says one agent who did not wish to be identified. “On a small trail, dozens can walk all over each other’s footprints, so you just do your best. Often, they’ll glue carpet to the soles of their shoes.”

Sources say the got-away count usually fails to truly reflect reality and comes up short. This comes as CBP reports its highest apprehension totals since 2006.

The humanitarian needs of thousands of unaccompanied children has impacted the Border Patrol’s ability to operate in many remote areas. This situation is likely to worsen as the crisis develops.

As Border Patrol agents are redirected to humanitarian aid to unaccompanied minors and staff newly opened facilities, the border itself is undermanned, according to the source. Homeland Security is focused strictly on the optics of the border and not the underlying vulnerabilities, the source complains.

Despite the current administration’s refusal to call the immigration situation on the border a crisis, the recent surges are objectively concerning. Many believe the impetus for the surges are fueled by the promise of amnesty legislation. The administration’s new policies regarding lax interior enforcement and a reduction in removals are also believed to be contributing factors.
