P5 teams don't want to play on Thursday because the NFL game on Thursday means the TV audience for the college game will be small, so the tradeoffs and inconveniences that come with playing on Thursday are not worth it. The ACC is the only P5 conference playing games on Thursday nights during the NFL regular season, and none of their Thursday games are among their most attractive conference matchups.

Friday makes much more sense as an "alternate" college football game day for TV because the NFL isn't permitted to televise games on Friday or Saturday during college football season. Friday is still not nearly as good as Saturday in terms of getting fans into the stadium, but Friday games offer a better TV opportunity than Thursday games.

I’m saying that NCAAF could have made TNF it’s own decades back, but held on to stupidly held scheduling traditions for too long. Did ABC have a hugely popular Thursday night TV show back in the early 2000’s (Friends on NBC, no?). The NFL might have respected that if NCAAF could have held a quality 3 hour 15 minute game from 8-11:15pm ET. Now the NFL has monopolized the slot with no turning back.

Another option is to stage TNF in September. Once football fatigue kicks in, let the MLB stage some playoff games in an exclusive window as MLB continue to retool itself. Then bring back TNF in mid November. To make up the number of NFL games lost in October, have MNF double headers in October with West coast teams hosting every night (you can pick out of a pool of 7 teams only as KC is on Central time). MLB can move their marquee post season games to mid week and give teams a day off on Mondays. Just play a series straight through like they did this prior year.

Nah, the NFL doesn't respect anyone else's "turf" and doesn't need to. Whenever the NFL decided to play games on most Thursdays, then Thursdays were theirs for the taking. Their teams have much larger fanbases than CFB teams, and the compulsive gamblers like betting on NFL games more than anything else.

Yes, no argument there. The only thing that would revert this is more frequent injuries or skewed win % for home teams.
