We're giving up quite a lot of size in the post and don't really have anyone we can trust to distribute out of the post though. I'm liking then getting it to Jacobs inside the arc and letting him work though. I've heard of Point Forwards I guess he's be a Power Guard?

Thats what you get when your team 2 tallest players are chucking up bombs and are a combined 2-14 from 3. Some of those bombs were absolutely awful, it was like watching kids up in the rec center just turning and chucking.

I'm certainly happy with the effort tonight. Closer game than I expected given our circumstances. Jacobs and Gio played their hearts out today. 5 steals for Jacobs. 7 assists for Gio. They were both all over UB defensively.

Bainbridge played hard but man, he really bothers me. What's it going to take for him to understand he is not a three point shooter? He led the team in three point attempts and total attempts tonight... And had 7 points. He is now 4-35 from three in his career. He's attempted more than twice as many threes as twos in his career. Someone make this make sense.

Also appreciate the effort, but that lineup was severely overmatched. Bainbridge's bombs were horrible, he need to work on moves closer to the hoop if he wants to contribute in the next couple seasons. It would also be nice to see the off-season strength and conditioning program transform some of these guys, either the guys that need to add some muscle or lose the fat.

Ditto on the effort, which bodes well going forward. Also have the same ??? with Bainbridge. Looks like he's in such a hurry to shoot ... that he can't shoot, if that makes sense. At any rate it's clear Kent should look to the transfer/juco route for another post player. O'Neil is good for a breather vs. the second tier, but against the true tall timber, he is limited.

Let's hope whatever the deal is/was w/Pippen and Hamilton was a one-game thing. When you see two guys out like this on the road, especially older guys, it often points to curfew issues or something along those lines. I'M JUST GUESSING ... but if so, hopefully lesson learned and penalty served going into the MAC Tournament.

So in 2 of the last 3 season our senior supposed to be leaders jaylin walker and now pippen have gotten themselves suspended for regular season finale. At a time when team supposed to be coming together not breaking apart. At some point this needs to fall on sendy.

RE: men's basketball at buffalo
I missed the tip off (thanks Monmouth for saving all your timeouts). Did they say it was a suspension? With the lack of transparency around everything right now, I figured "coaches decision" could be someone tested positive or they're trying to limit contact, etc.

Does anyone know if the MAC tournament is requiring independent negative tests for a team to play? I believe the NCAA tournament is. Our friends down the road could be in trouble if they are. I worry what could happen if it's left up to the schools and coaches like it's seemingly been so far.

My understanding is these suspensions had absolutely nothing to do with Covid.

If you feel the need to take a shot at the coach, so be it ... but so far the consensus (me included) is this team put up the appropriate effort vs. Buffalo without their top players (all 3 by the way) which does not point to a team "breaking apart."

And on a side not, if I'm not mistaken, Kent won that game Walker missed, which also indicates that team wasn't "breaking apart" either.

What "falls on Sendy" is having the gonads to bench his top players when needed, no matter when or against who.

And that seems to be a good thing, IMO. The man has his faults to be sure, but this seems a bit petty to me, particularly in a season that overall (competitively and styistically) may have been one of the best at Kent in quite awhile.

I'm no betting man, but aside from at Ball State, can't think of a game Kent should have won this season and didn't.

I didn’t say effort wasn’t there. I applaud the guys that played tonight. I’m saying how can your leaders, the guys supposed to carry the team get themselves suspended. And if your belief is this is the first time Danny has been difficult or on a different page than rest of team I’d beg to differ

Danny being difficult and on a different page is no secret from what I can tell. But the fact he (supposedly/maybe) could not keep himself in check the last game of the regular season is on him. Until the true reason is learned, it's just speculation (but likely grenade accurate).

As for Hamilton, tough to say if its an entirely different situation, an injury flareup, or if he is caught up in Pippen's issue. Time I guess will tell. On to the MAC Tournament.

RE: men's basketball at buffalo
Soooo i just assumed pippen & hamilton were being held out to give those big bodies more time to rest recover heal for the MAC tourney. after reading all the posts here (& allen moff's write-up) appears it was for other reason (AKA bad attitude.) hmmm interesting. totally agree with cleveland: hat's off to coach for having the guts to bench star players when warranted.

my big take-away from tge game: Bainbridge on defense! WOW!! was a monster. did it without fouling. great passing too!
on the downside, he was AWFUL shooting the 3s 01-rivals 01-rivals
as polish hammer was saying, just chucking-up way too many 3s (schoolyard style)
like cleveland was saying, seemed in a rush to shoot.
dannyb73, why do you say i don't see him (bainbridge) coming back? defense & court awareness he is a rock star 04-rock shooting 01-rivals i think we can fix.

jacobs & geo played their hearts out!! hat's off!! 01-ncaabbs
beck too! 04-bow
beck had one too many turnovers, need to fix that.

overall, this is one of those rare losses where i am not bummed. zero bummed. the guys played GREAT!

KSU315, you were way off. we were not blown out of the gym. no longer scared or UB. they are very mortal. we can beat them.

i love this team. can't wait for thurs! 04-cheers

PS would love to see that red-hot shooting Ball State team that we played a few weeks ago show-up vs UT :)

I don't see Evan coming back because he cannot crack the rotation. I just think (without any evidence whatsoever) that he won't want to stay and continue to have his a$$ planted to the bench.

He was not an inside player in HS. So he is not going to develop into an inside player at this level. He is the dreaded stretch 4. except his 3 point shooting has be horrible.
It looks like the game is to fast for him and that limits what he can do offensively. Look at Mballa and Williams for Bufs, then look an Evan. see any difference in body type and athleticism? Good kid, but will probably never be more then a role player at this level.

Unless he is really happy where he's at, I can see him going to one of the local D II schools where he could be more of a factor.

I have been as down as any on Bainbridge ... BUT ... he's still 6-9, can run and is reasonably athletic. He just hasn't shot the ball as most anticipated. Yet here's the deal.

W/all the guards Kent will have next season, especially if Nuga returns, perhaps his value emerges on defense and with knoledge of the system. The other plus is ... HE WILL HAVE ANOTHER SOPHOMORE YEAR ... that might be enough to turn him from a ??? mark into a solid rotation piece. If so, he has two more years after that.

Kent has so few local players, I'd rather see the coaches go to the end of the line w/him, and EB stick it out at least for another year. At worst, he's an experienced deep bench sub. At best, he emerges as heir apparent to Hamilton. If he lands somewhere in the middle, that's still a plus.

Remember, with the loss of Bennett, Kent is likely already on the hunt for another big, and has already signed a freshman post as well, so what's the rush. Another freshman will likely sit the bench just like EB. Another quality juco will likely want more playing time than available.

We've seen kids leave early and/or Kent cut the cord early on a lot of players ... IMO, I say EB and Kent should ride this out for at least one more season. You got a 'free' sophomore season, take advantage of it.

Excellent post. Couldn’t have said it better myself. And don’t automatically assume with yesterday’s situation that Hamilton coming back next year. I’m sure coaches want him back but maybe he doesn’t want to. We’ll see how this plays out.

I agree, Cleveland. I don't want to see him go. I just meant that IF he isn't happy with his situation he would be a great fit in some local D II school. I can think of lots of players both at KSU and elsewhere who really gelled and contributed late in their tenure at a school.
