I cheer for any team from Illinois including Loyola-Chicago.

THAT was incredible last night. Illini without the best player going into #2 in the nation Michigan and whipping them like a dog by 23 points!

Finish the season strong and they have probably locked up a number 1 seed.

RE: Illini
Incredible win for them, made a great team look awful with their best player out. Maybe one day we’ll see our huskies get in but until then I’ll jump on the bandwagon of any team in IL. Both ILL and Loyola are fun to watch.

One win was against a team so bad that after we beat them they threw in the towel on the rest of the season and quit playing!!! And that game was a nail biter as we were only up by 1 with 4 minutes to go!

RE: Illini
This board is getting pathetic most of you have no history of how the University of Illinois screwed NIU so many times during the 70s and 80s growth years. Just to name a few, they fought the Engineering and Law schools tooth and nail, destroyed the Event Center that was to replace Chick Evans, for years had their own governing board while colluding with IBHE to make other state schools have joint boards that impeded growth of good programs, etc.
I get it when people say NIU is not a direct competitor to the Illness, but the history is fully there of them attempting to engineer all the other state schools and keep with one dominate state school. Honestly I would be more pissed if I was an ISU grad. Illinois has the population to support two quality schools, just like Iowa, Michigan, Indiana but the Illness have always squashed it whenever they have the chance. Besides the tuition being so high, why do you think so many Illinois HS students go out of state to college. I believe the ratio is greater than 50% now. Also they have played the other Public Div 1 football 3 times since 1969, which is pretty lame. Done with rant and I will cheer against the Illness until my last dying breath.

The State screwed the rest of the schools in Illinois when they made Illinois hard to get into, accepted just about any foreign student at UI. That led may kids out of state since the disparity between UI and anyone was huge. I mean I was accepted to Purdue engineering based on Math but UI didn't even give a second glance in late 80's. The exodus in turn making schools like NIU accept a lower tier of students which they were already. NIU/DeKalb finished the job when academics continued to fall, kids got good deals out of state at big name schools...as cheap as Illinois and additionally became vacation spots for parents as well as kids. I mean 100's of kids from this area go to AL alone. Years ago, kids went to maybe WMU, Iowa, Purdue and that was in.

And the icing on the cake was DeKalb around the campus turning into crap.

They have largest Chinese student population. This , in part, is because school needs out of state tuition and China happy to suck intellectual info from Illinois

+100

U of Illiness has walked all over NIU so many times in concrete ways over the last few decades. Blows my mind when NIU fans get warm and fuzzy for a sec when U of I has some temporary athletic success. I know they work hard to keep PHD level diplomas from coming out of NIU Accounting and Engineering programs even though the quality of the programs greatly dictate otherwise. God forbid our diplomas and theirs have the same value.

Doubt the Illini board lit up with local love when we went to the Orange Bowl.

U of I works to hold NIU down more than any of the other 128 FBS level schools, yet some of our alumni randomly hold onto some local love for them because the Sun Times tries to make it fashionable? F*ck U of I.

Kind of makes my day knowing that I am not consumed with an intense petty hatred while I get to truly enjoy a pretty good div1 team from the state of Illinois. Glad I'm not you.
