Depends on which seniors. I think its important to keep Curry and Trice, and I'd like to keep X if he wants to stay. I'd probably be willing to pony up some for those guys.

Conditionally.

ODAF will get my unused ticket purchase for this season, generous guy that I am. But I will not contribute again until the END OF NEXT SEASON, contingent upon (i) the return to full attendance at the Ted, (ii) no remnant authoritarian requirements (meaning "just in case" mask and social-distancing restrictions) and (iii) an unambiguous apology from our governor for being a useless wimp - - although I will probably waive that last one.

I cherish ODU men's basketball. But it is, ultimately, just entertainment. If next year it is again treated like a tool for exercising needless authoritarian control over voluntary activity, I will be done.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, in which case ODU leadership can safely ignore me - - much like they have for this entire past year. Or maybe I'm not the only one who feels this way, in which case the school might want to think about asserting itself next time the Niedemeyers from Richmond or DC seek to play Big Brother.

Bro it's a freaking pandemic. There is nothing authoritarian about having safety requirements.

Like seriously, get the **** over yourself. No one cares if you're too offended by masks or social distancing to support the school. There's light at the end of the tunnel with these vaccines, wear your mask continue to distance and we all get to have things go back to normal sooner rather than later.

I think the term you are looking for is "Neanderthal".

This thread is hilarious. No one on here really knows. No. One.

There is only one thing about the roster that can be 100% predicted. That is: it will be full of players who get yelled at a lot.

As will 95% of the rosters in any level of competitive basketball.

And the freshmen will see very little if any playing time. :)

So there are 5% that don’t make bonehead plays?

Either we get the dumbest freshmen in America (obviously not the case) or the tolerance for accepting a few boneheaded plays in exchange for the value young guys get from playing some is much lower than it is in most programs in 2021.

Its not like we are the only program in America that doesn't have 2 of the freshman not playing minutes this year.

When they are good enough to play, they will. When players like Ezikpe, Caver, etc. were freshman, they were good enought to play.

The great thing about our freshman is they can still participate and play a little and still be freshman next year.

Would you prefer all of the current freshman just redshirt each year? It would result in essentially the same amount of playing time, but it seems that (at least prior to JJ, and mainly referring to BT's redshirting at someone each year) that pill is swallowed much easier.

I mean, if they aren't going to play at all, I would. If they are only going to play garbage minutes, I would also be in favor of redshirting if you can get buy in. But Brady is good enough to play a few minutes of non garbage time here and there and get better. Shanu, probably is not, and probably should have redshirted.

This year it doesnt matter, but in general... YES, Id rather redshirt them than have them waste a whole year of eligibility on 5-10 minutes PT in an entire season.

You gathered from 11 minutes this year that Brady is good enough to play as opposed to the people that have seen him play for thousands of minutes everyday?

Tell them that you believe that Redshirting is in their best interest. Explain why. Explain that while they do not want to redshirt, you are not going to take that opportunity from them just to ensure that they can play 40 seconds in a few games when the score is out of reach, so they will not be playing under those circumstances. Explain that if they bust their ass and reach a point in their development where it becomes clear that they can help the team by playing this year, not in garbage time, but real action, that you will meet with them and discuss that at that time, and if that point they want to play this year, you move forward with inserting them into the rotation, if they decide that since 3/4 of the year has passed they would prefer to sit the rest out and take the redshirt you will allow them to redshirt. Reinforce that you think they are too talented and too important to the future of the program for you to burn that year by letting them stand there and run out the clock a few times. Then after the season is over you meet with them and discuss the option to redshirt, but I am not sure why they would refuse at that point, season is over, you didn't burn your redshirt and you have the option to gain a year of eligibility.

Think many preserve that redshirt year in case they transfer. And with the transfer numbers being what they are every year across the country, it makes sense.

What if the player decides they want to save their redshirt year regardless if they play or not?

The players know where they stand and choose not to redshirt.
