Wichita has the wins over Houston and I guess Mississippi

Otherwise we have similar profiles

And we beat the crap out of them

Yes I can hear committee members eight now saying we are looking at the season and not who was better on a given day. But, especially if we beat them again in the conference tourney the overall picture is too close to ignore a sweep, I would think

Or, if we beat Houston on the road then we match their big win and have a 20 point stomping of them

P5 schools do have an advantage in their schedule, no doubt. They still have to win. Duke is done. The stupid Last 4 was based on ESPN's hope that they would start winning. They didn't. As for Michigan State, they beat 2 top 10 teams in a week. They deserve to be on the bubble right now, but their schedule doesn't bode well for them.

Agreed...

As a conference if we want respect we are going to have to beat decent teams from other conferences...Most of the American didn't achieve that goal...Including us.

#10 Villanova
15-4
10 NET
2-3 Quad1, Texas, UConn
Lost to 74 St. John's, 114 Butler, Creighton by 16 and Virginia Tech

I'm not comparing them to us, but how does 2-3 against Quad1 with UConn counted as your best win, and a blowout loss to 8-13 Butler, get you ranked #10 in the country?

How can a team with 2 Quad1 wins possibly be ranked #10 in the country?

We are already way ahead of Wichita in every metric. If we beat Houston, we will be even further ahead of them and we will be 3-1 versus Houston, Wichita and SMU. Wichita will be 1-2, will have avoided SMU entirely, and will have had their asses kicked by us.

All things being equal in the conference tournament, we will be way ahead of them.

IF we don't beat Houston on Sunday, but we beat either Houston or Wichita in our conference tournament we are ahead of them. We are for sure a 2 bid league. The wildcard is SMU. If we beat Houston and/or Wichita State, but SMU wins the tournament, then there could be trouble for us and Wichita.

I'm not afraid of Houston, but I would prefer to avoid them as long as possible in the tournament for two reasons. One, I think on a neutral court, we handle Wichita or SMU. Two, Wichita has already beaten Houston. Beat Wichita or SMU and we are in. Houston beats Wichita before we get to them and we are probably in if we beat SMU.

IF we beat Houston on Sunday, we are in ahead of Wichita. IF we lose to Houston on Sunday, but beat Wichita in the tournament, we will be in ahead of them.

It's not a "weak conference". It's a "non-P5" conference.
We're ranked as the #7 conference out of 34.
We are allowed to lose a game here and there - just like everyone. Especially when we don't have Deandre fully acclimated.
Gotta get past this tv narrative that they use to brainwash.

Can remember several supposed "dominate" teams not winning it. Suppose that's why they call it March Madness & why the games have to be played.

Agreed...

It only takes 1 guy to catch fire to put a top team in jeopardy

Wichita State is a sham. They're projected to be in the big dance only because they're higher in the standings than Houston. The AAC is avoiding rescheduling games amongst the top 4 to preserve the projected two bids. They don't want WSU or Memphis to accumulate any more losses before the conference tournament. Thus, you have Cincy playing Vandy tomorrow, instead of us, and no rejiggering the schedule to allow for second games vs Houston or WSU.

The last thing they want is for any of the teams to take themselves out of the picture before the conference. Hopefully the selection committee will take whichever non-Houston team performs the best in the conference tourney.

Then us and WSU should get multiple shots at Houston - our place, their place, anyone's place to give us more of those quality wins.

that is the basis for the argument for the Mountain West - two teams that we appear to be better than are in the conversation because they both beat the best team in the conference.

so give us a chance to beat them more than once

Why do we get a different scale/criteria?

NCAA is such a sham. I hope we win and rub their noses in it. We need to keep recruiting and program building momentum moving in the right direction.

One of the announcers last night gave us a B- for only winning by 21 on the opponents floor. Earlier, one of the nitwits said Memphis wasn’t playing well and it was Tulane’s bad play that gave us that lead. Apparently, they felt Tulane’s inadequate offense had nothing to do with facing the #1 defense in the country.

I guess I misheard as I thought the B- was for the whole season. Considering how bad the offense was the first half of the season, a B- it was a fair grade. Again assuming it being for the whole season.

We might be about to witness just how much the selection committee considers how a team plays its last few games.

If the committee had any common sense, they would have expanded the play-in games to include 16 or 32 teams, that way a team that had bad luck due to cove scheduling (And Kenpom has us at 303 or so in the Luck category) would have a fighting chance. Seed the top 48 and let 16 or 32 teams fight over the remaining spots with a 2 loss round robin the week prior to the tournament. But what do I know about it?
