UTRGV vs NMSU
Just watched the game. Neither team played exceptionally well (RGV only makes 6 shots and scores 19 points in the first half) but NMSU did what they needed to win. Sets up an interesting scenario this weekend: If GCU and UVU split, the tournament's top seed tiebreaker is down to who finishes #3. NMSU and CBU are battling for the 3rd seed. If it's NMSU then GCU is the tournament's top seed. If it's CBU in #3, then UVU gets the top seed. I should've paid more attention in college calculus, maybe then I could make more sense of it all.

Whomever gets the #1 seed is very important in the context "if" CBU happens to win the WAC Tournament. I think if that happens, the regular season champion gets the auto bid to the NCAA tournament.

From first place to a losing conference record, all in less than a week.

No criticism from here. If ever a team has earned a "pass" for their season performance, it is the Vaqueros.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the #1 and/or #2 seed lose their first game.

I thought that schools who weren’t eligible for the NCAAT typically didn’t participate in their conference tournaments

I do have to say, there are probably 4 or 5 teams that could win the WAC tournament this year. It could be who I think is the best team in the WAC (GCU), but there are also 3-4 teams that could catch fire and win it as well.

Crazy, crazy year.

GO AGGIES!!!!

Normally, conferences don't allow it. I believe the WAC is one of only two conferences to ok it this season. I heard it was a "bone" thrown to CBU. Although the WAC really got lucky, as this decision was made back in April long before Chicago State cancelled their season. Otherwise, we'd only have 5 teams in the WACT meaning the top 3 would have byes with just one Thursday night men's game.

Las Vegas is a neutral court. Anyone can beat anybody. GCU isn't any better then anyone in this league.

I'm aware of the games being neutral.I don't have faith that any WAC team that has to play 3 games to win the WACT will win the WACT. They might make the WACT finals but no one from seed 3-6 have shown that that have it in them to win 3 in a row. Covid I don't believe is done doing it's thing with screwing up NCAA basketball for some.

RE:GV vs NMSU
I think GCU and UVU are solid favorites but all six school are capable of winning the tournament if the ball falls the right way. GCU has been the most steady team all season. Drew did a good job getting them out of the gates quick. However. I think UVU has shown the most improvement throughout the season. I think GCUs recent losses are more an example of the WAC field strengthening than GCU tapering off. CBU and Seattle can shoot you out of the arena on a given night. But I feel NMSU's talent makes them the most dangerous team in the field. Im just not sure they can maintain the same level of intensity for three straight nights.

I don't know, Lopes. It seems like there is more parity this year than in the past. No team is winless or lossless; no team has blown out another on both days of a doubleheader weekend. GCU and UVU are the best bets but as a W.A.G. I'd say all the tournament eligible teams have at least a 5% shot at it.

It's not going to matter if the #1 and #2 seed lose in the Semi's. Then whoever wins the tournament will have to win 3 games in 3 nights. It can happen because anyone can win two games in two nights.

RE: UTRGV vs NMSU
Interesting useless piece of trivia: in the history of the WAC Tournament, only two years didn't see an upset of a lower seeded team beating a higher seed. All the higher seeds won every game in 1992 and again in 2004. Other than that... upsets galore! Get the popcorn ready!

The norm in virtually all conferences, is a minimum of 3 wins to take the conference tourney. Its not often that its possible to win with just 2 games. Rarely happens.
