The company that publishes the books decided that there were books that they didn't want to publish anymore. Nothing wrong with that. It would be like you taking down questionable party pics on your social media from 1998. Relics from a different era.

Now why would you think the company decided that? What were their main reasons?

It was easily up until Election Night. Now I feel it's about 50-50. Once a few of the people who refer to themselves as older pass on, it's gonna be a Blue paradise.

I wonder if they'll still carry the books at libraries (yes, I still like going to libraries)? Probably for a few years at least.

Now that they’ve successfully run the great cheat of an election, they are emboldened and figure they can go anywhere and silence anyone that questions their leftist agenda.......

We seem to have a lot of people in this forum that still believe that the 2020 election was stolen.

That literally blows my mind.

Probably because they thought they could make more money by doing this. It's usually the deciding factor for companies.

I wouldn't cheer for that, bad karma and form.

This board has always tilted red but after some Memphis board shut down it turned bright fire engine red.

That's fine. But wasn't your mind blown when the left thought the 2016 election was stolen and even ran an investigation for years trying to prove it?

I'm about to add another to the "IGNORE" list. I've resisted so far, this one seems a little "challenged" & I actually feel sorry for him

RE: Dr. Seuss cancelled
If the publisher decided to no longer publish 6 books... books most aren’t the slightest bit familiar... why are you offended? Dr Seuss decided it was in their best long term interest to change.

Same with Mr Potatohead.... the manufacturer decided to update the offering. There was little, if any, outcry about the gender of the toy, just a manufacturer deciding to update the concept.

Things change. People evolve & the “free market” moves with it.

RE: Dr. Seuss cancelled
Quote:Left-wing Marxists in academia, government, and big tech are continuing their relentless efforts to erase centuries’ worth of American culture and values, replacing them with staid, intractable mandates and behaviors that are destroying our republic.

The latest assault on our traditions: The ‘cancellation’ of Dr. Seuss.

In a segment on his Fox News program Tuesday, Sean Hannity brought in civil rights attorney Leo Terrell and American University professor Omekongo Dibinga, both of whom are black, to discuss the sudden, out-of-nowhere proclamation from on academic high that a half-dozen of Dr. Seuss’ books are (wait for it) racist.

In leading the segment, Dibinga, who supports canceling the books out of our culture, said, “I specifically object to images that depict Asians in a horrible light, that depict African people … in a horrible light, and this is something that Dr. Seuss has had a history of doing.

According to the Associated Press, critics of the book “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” portrays Asians in a stereotypical light, while “If I Ran the Zoo” depicts Africans wearing skirts made from plants.

“[The characters are] made to look like they’re exotic, where they’re made to look like they are less than civilized; and that is also the case with the African characters that appear in the books,” Dibinga claimed.

That’s obviously a subjective observation that is subject to different interpretations — a concept that, once upon a time, Americans on the left used to welcome, until their perspectives became dominant in culture and now they don’t want discussion, they demand conformity.

Terrell wasn’t having it.

“This professor would not tell us who’s been harmed by these books,” he said. “You name me one person, first and last name, who has been harmed by these books. You cannot do it. You talk about racism. Tell me where this racism exists.”

Terrell went on to note that Dr. Seuss’ books have been around for decades and that as a part of the American lexicon, they should not be banned. He then asked Dibinga if he could name anyone “specific” who has been harmed by the book’s content.

“Sure. I can name the black community that has been harmed by this book,” he responded.

That lit Terrell up.

“Do not say that! You do not represent the black community! You know you’re wrong! You’re absolutely wrong! … You don’t represent me! For you to sit here and say that is a lie! … You don’t speak for the black community! You don’t speak for the black community!”

Hannity jumped in and noted that both Barack and Michelle Obama promoted Dr. Seuss and his books. To Dibinga he asked, “Did they miss something?”

The professor began to respond but Terrell jumped in as well, forcing Hannity to end the segment.

As for whether Dr. Seuss, real name Theodor Seuss Geisel, was ‘racist,’ the answer is, unequivocally, no.

“There wasn’t a racist bone in that man’s body — he was so acutely aware of the world around him and cared so much,’’ Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, Geisel’s stepdaughter, told the New York Post.

During a segment on his own Fox News program Tuesday, host Tucker Carlson also defended Dr. Seuss and recounted what he was really like.

“Dr. Seuss was not a racist,” Carlson asserted. “He was an evangelist against bigotry. He wrote an entire shelf of books against racism, and not in a subtle way. They were clearly, explicitly against racism. That was the whole point of writing them, to teach children not to be racist.”

“Canceling Dr. Seuss isn’t stupid. It’s intentional. They’re banning Dr. Seuss not because he was a racist, but precisely because he wasn’t.”

RE: Dr. Seuss cancelled
Quote:EBay is reportedly removing the six Dr. Seuss books that the author’s estate has stopped publishing, saying that it is working on removing the titles from its online auctions and other listings.

The Silicon Valley giant confirmed to the Wall Street Journal on Thursday afternoon that it is in the process of deleting the titles from its marketplace. Among the titles that will be deleted are And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street and If I Ran the Zoo.

“EBay is currently sweeping our marketplace to remove these items,” a spokeswoman for eBay told the newspaper, adding that it would take some time to review seller listings and that the company was monitoring newly published listings.

The announcement comes as eBay users took to social media on Thursday claiming that their listings for the Dr. Seuss books in question had been removed. Some users posted the messages they received from eBay, which appeared to state that listings violated the company’s “Offensive material policy.”
